There was brief talk of a clickthrough message when creating a new page in Main/ as well (to avoid tropes without YKTTW and works in the wrong namespace); if that gets more discussion and is implemented, then doing the same thing on these subpages with the indexing message would be good. Part of the reason so few are indexed might be because typing "funny index" into the search doesn't get me anything useful.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I added a redirect for Funny Index, but this needs an autoindexing.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis same troper put up a thread on Tech Wishlist a while back.
They don't autoindex because the pages are sorted by medium.
I suggested putting a notice on the edit page along the lines of the "YMMV tropes on main work page" notice or changing the text of the "this page has not been indexed" message, but I think that's the last post on that thread.
Don't forget Nightmare Fuel. I've come across a couple of non-indexed ones during the clean-up.
Bless you, Twentington. If I see one, I try and fix it; it bugs me, too.
I'm still, STILL seeing unindexed Funny, Awesome, Heartwarming, and Nightmare Fuel pages ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE. Why is nobody fixing this?!?!
ETA: And now I'm seeing it on WMG and Headscratchers pages too. WHY ARE YOU NOT INDEXING YOUR STUFF THIS IS NOT THAT DAMN HARD TO DO SKJDFLHSDJKFHSDJLKFHDSJKFHJKLSDFFLSJKD
Sorry.

Because people are lazy. Also, CAPSLOCK isn't a good argument in favour of anything.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanShall we make this a Special Efforts thread (in which section?)?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. We would rather need an "Unindexed pages" list.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd also imagine a fair few of them are entirely unaware of the need to index them. It's not exactly intuitive; I didn't know until after I'd been knees deep in the cleanup sections of the wiki for several months.
There is a note in the edit page that says to index new pages.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnd finding the indexes is an incredibly annoying process. We really ought to overhaul it and make it easier.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI think it was proposed in the page creation ovrhaul.
We could use something like Wikipedia's HotCat thing for indexing though.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt would be much easier just to auto-index them.
Rhymes with "Protracted."How about DOING something instead of just talk talk talk?
Well I can't implement auto-indexing. Ask Fast Eddie.

Rhymes with "Protracted."We can pretty much do nothing. Only Eddie can do it. You do realise the site has only one admin?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI agree with Septimus. There should be a default index that holds pages without indices.
There is. Needs an Index. Which you still have to search for, making it of limited use since you can just go and search for a proper index anyway.
We really need to optimize finding indexes.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerFirst, asking for a thread retitle since this isn't just about funny and awesome.
There are a couple ideas about the indexing thing. Creating an indexing tool, and unindexed pages list etc.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think what Trivialis and Septimus were suggesting was an auto-generated page that lists unindexed pages (like the untyped pages list) so that we can actually find unindexed pages with consistency.

You'd be right for me.
Of course, whether it's practical would depend upon how the database stores the indexes.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWould making this a Special Efforts thread be a good idea?
Special Efforts doesn't exist anymore. There is a Trope Talk thread here for "where do we index a page?" type questions.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanA while ago, I made a list of pages which not only have no index, but no wicks at all. It's at Orphaned Pages.
Get rid of the walled garden
Can we please make some kind of warning come up whenever a new Funny, Awesome, Heartwarming or Tear Jerker page is made? Something that says something like "After you click save, don't forget to put this page on an index"?
I should NOT have to deal with indexing these damn pages EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. People should know that they don't auto-index, just like works and tropes don't auto-index. Some kind of warning when said pages are being made should help.
