Is anybody else suddenly getting a bunch of Kevin Smith videos in their recommendations? I've never watched any of his videos, or even anything about him.
I don't care about Kevin Smith, YouTube, stop showing me this stuff.

Figured I would try here as well...anyone know what is up with the creator Suede? Maybe someone who is a patreon for him? His last three videos went up at the usual times, but were pulled down by copyright claims, the last two within minutes. I know he had some copyright issues earlier this year, but those appeared to have resolved and he was back to a regular upload schedule.
His playlist still has the timestamps, but the videos are inaccessible or just gone. I have not seen anything on his community tab, and his own site has not been updated for months.
I recently watched the Down the Rabbit Hole video on WingsOfRedemption, which talks about Jordie Jordan's rise to YouTube fame, how his vitriolic attitude caused problems when interacting with viewers and other YouTubers, and how various factors like his obesity and less-than-adequate social skills have caused problems with his life.
It makes me really glad that I'm not too familiar with a lot of the "famous" YouTube personalities; the majority of them come across as pretty unpleasant people.
The video also reminds me of why I no longer find "trolling videos" funny, even if the person being trolled is an unpleasant person; when the person being trolled has genuine issues that are harmful to their lifestyle, the people trolling them come out looking even more horrible than the person being trolled.
I've definitely become a lot more careful about which YouTube videos I click. I usually find myself on the lookout for red flags whenever I click on a video from someone I'm not familiar with.

I know that there's a thread regarding PDP, but that thread seems very inactive somewhat. I promise that this will be the last time I'll share this before we'll move this topic to that thread.
Just disclosing on what happened since backing down from that charity and promptly accusing him of things.
Really called out on the media, the alt-right, and himself, as idiots.
We're all idiots on wrong assumptions, and we'd forget all about it within a week or when something more controversial happens, like with ProJared.
That is all.
Edit: If you assume that I'm a Nazi because I like PDP, know that I'd likely be kicked out by them because of my skin tone. I like PDP because he's funny.

ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔Damage controooooooooooool
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."So instead of talking about Youtubers doing dumb things, let's talk about Youtube itself being dumb, in this case, making it much harder for youtubers to be verified, and taking verification away from anyone who doesn't meet the new requirements.
hes like in permanent damage control
New theme music also a boxYeah, it's a stab in the back for people who have channels in good standing, some of them for over a decade and who've worked hard. It's Youtube reminding people they want those million subs channel and corporate channels and the rest can fuck right off.

Speaking of channels that have been around for a long time, this video that takes the audio from Fantasmic! and adds in clips from various Disney movies is one of the earliest videos I ever saw on YouTube. The video quality is not very good, but I still enjoy watching it.
Well, that sucks on so many levels.

ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔Even Wings pales in comparison to Chris Chan, she may had not been a nice individual but the way the trolls kept harassing her and even made an entire website dedicated to "chronicling" her actions. Wings had his demons but his trolls are even worse than he is.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"They don't view Chris as a person,to them she might as well be a fictional, thats how little regard they have for their actions, utterly disgusting
New theme music also a boxIsnt Chris a banned topic?
Just asking. A mere mention of Chris can snowball into a disaster
Uni catNope, not banned as far I am concerned, their work page is locked though

New theme music also a boxI remember frequenting the CWCKI on a semi-regular basis. CWC as a whole has died down though; perhaps the transgender thing gave that one a Level in Kindness; you don't see much activity about that subject these days. There was that book that imagined if previous, angry, villainous CWC was president though. Basically, think President Trump. Ironically, CWC doesn't hold him in high regard, despite it almost being certain the past CWC would have.
> There was that book that imagined if previous, angry, villainous CWC was president though.
wait what?
New theme music also a boxIt's not really a formally published book. It was made by someone who studied CWC for some time. Called "The girl who blew up the world" or something like that.
Mind you, Vivian G is one of the "good" trolls, the one that tried to reason with CWC peacefully and try to get him to recognize trolls from all of the "Fans" that followed him. CWC, being stubborn, didn't take this advice, and Vivian G broke.

Dan Olson explains the verified thing perfectly. It's trivial, but it's removing someting from tens of thousands of people, and at the same time turning it into a status symbol. Sort of like if I kick you out of the bar and then immediately put up new signs and ads for it.
Thread on verification, why this isn't a big deal, and why it will be treated like one b/c You Tube are bad communicators.
You Tube verification has historically been a fairly trivial flag, about on par with those "verify your email" messages you get when you sign up for a forum or something: it's there to slow down automated account spam.
And for years everyone has been fine with that. But Twitter, who ruin everything, created an ecosystem where Verified User became a coveted status, a symbol of import, relevance, endorsement, &c. So now You Tube, who increasingly want to cater to mainstream celebrities, want a flag they can put on those celebrities' accounts to show that they're real, but the new language of social media is "verified" and You Tube's "verified" already means something a lot less important. So You Tube is like "well, we're just going to shake the dust off this old thing that no one really cares about anyway"
Which, fair.
But.
People really, really, reeeeeeeealllllllllly hate it when you take things away from them. Even trivial things. So with absolutely zero warning You Tube fireblasted a few hundred thousand creators with medium-to-large social platforms and told them "sorry, you're not important enough to be verified anymore" I mean, the double sting is that the whole message is explicitly paired with an elevated status. They're changing the flare in a way that's not just confirmation of authenticity, but clearly intended to draw attention in the sidebar and help drive traffic. My rational mind is fine, I don't even care. Hell, tons of really popular channels never bothered to get verified.
And yet deep in my lizard brain I feel robbed.
I want it.
Give me back my check mark you cowards! Verification continues to have zero impact on any other system and won't impact monetization or access to other account features like streaming, superchat, merchandising, or memberships.
It is a purely social signifier.
Which makes it the most valuable of all.
When I read that part after the "lizard brain", my mind immediately went to Tolkien.
"It's my birthday and I wants it."
"His rage passes description-the sort of rage that is only seen when rich folk that have more than they can enjoy suddenly lose something that they have long had but have never before used or wanted."
Disgusted, but not surprised[insert Peridot saying "this has no practical function, it just makes me feel bad!" here]
One of the reasons I participate in this forum is that there is no system of upvotes or downvotes for posts. I hate that shit because I know what it's doing to me on a lizard brain level.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI hate forums or websites that has just upvotes as their is usually no way to chuck out assholes or at the very least bury them.
Perfect example, Youtube.

So right now I'm marathoning the webvideo series Chroma, but since the episodes unofficially posted on youtube have multiple sound edits due to copyright, I went back to the team's official channel on Dailymotion. And… I found myself actually able to navigate the site, and the player works without a hitch. Did DM get an update lately? Last time I tried it it wasn't nearly as smooth…
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.
