Needs Help: The Remake

I notice some missing areas in The Remake, but I'm unsure if they need their own subtropes or if I should just add them to the main trope. The two main ones are: Radio shows re-made as TV shows, which was common right after the advent of TV, and films made into TV series. I'm also thinking of comic books made into movies, should that be in there somewhere? There've been a few videogame or tabletop games made into movies as well (Super Mario Bros, Battleship...wasn't there a Dungeons and Dragons movie?)

If something is adapted to a different medium, it's an adaptation, not a remake.

We do seem to be missing The Adaptation supertrope to Animated Adaptation, Pragmatic Adaptation, Recursive Adaptation, etc., though.

Is there any actual issue here, except for the lack of an Adapatation supertrope?

This may be an opportunity to talk about the exact distinguishing line between remake and adaptation. Can a work of fiction be "adapted" (as opposed to "remade") within its original medium?

If, for example, a novel intended for an adult audience is retold for young adult readers, or as a children's book, is that a remake or an adaptation?

I think The Remake is strictly limited to things within the same medium.

I think that is unambiguous, but that doesn't answer whether an adaptation can be made with the same medium; or whether such a case should always be considered a remake.

Curious case: the new version of Total Recall is reportedly a re-adaptation of the original short-story rather than a remake of the original movie.

On the other hand, the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still really was an adaptation in the same medium.
