It amuses me that the "Endless power to recreate yourself" is considered sinful in this context.

And that they considered trans* people "Undisciplined". As if any of them are willing to deal with years of surgery and hormones and a lifetime of having life shit on you, just to feel like yourself.

Apparently, we're supposed to accept ourselves as God made us.

It is now morally wrong to exercise.

Conservative Christians then should not vaccinate themselves, be receivers of organ transplantations, et cetera. Maybe that would hasten their decline. tongue

Lemme run that by my chief and I'll get back to you.

Family members booted from church for supporting their gay daughter.

Elders at Ridgedale Church of Christ told Linda Cooper and two relatives that their public support for Kat Cooper, Linda Cooper's gay daughter, went against the church's teachings, local media reported. In a private meeting, reports say, Linda Cooper was given a choice: publicly atone for their transgressions or leave the church.
Yep, disown your family or get disowned by your church. Heck of a choice, right?

It's really hard not to respond with "and nothing of value was lost". Why would you want to stay with those asshats?

So out of curiosity, what Christian denominations are friendly toward LGBT rights and people? Or at least personal churches, having just looked at my own father's denomination and seeing how conflicted that is.

Well, here's a list of the ones that don't consider it a sin at all. There are a few others who are sort of ok with it.

We really need more people willing to respond to an organization going "support out bigoted belief or get kicked out" with "Well, fuck your shit".

[up][up][up]Because church is life, family, community, support, and guidance, even though in those things it may break you. And it can be very hard to recognise a houseful of asshats when they are asshats you've come to love and trust. And it can be very hard to leave a houseful of asshats when they're loving and trustworthy in other areas.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

"Your sexuality doesn't matter" the Pope

That sentiment would seem to be at odds with the Church's position on marriage equality. Not that I'm complaining- baby steps, after all.

You don't have to tell us Papa, tell those guys over there who are denying LGBTQ people service at Catholic hospitals.

If it's true, then that's good.

If the church says that it's okay to at least be gay if not act gay, then that's big progress for Catholicism.

I'd like to note that the Bible calls homosexual actions sin, not homosexual feelings.

So, it's alright to be gay; you just have to be celibate?

If that doctor had targeted any other group, their career would be over. Sometimes I think we're too nice for our own good.

More like make sure the "doctor's" tendency to neglect their duties is well known, making it much harder for them to find work.

My son, the eldest, was invited to a local church. He tried to politely decline the invite but the girl was rather persistent.

After several invites over several days, she finally asked him why he wouldn't go with her.

He told her he has no desire to go to church and is quite happy to go to hell because then he would be with the only parents he had ever had that loved him.

I rejoice in the progress we are making in social acceptance. And I do feel there is progress. However as with any social evolution, those retaining the less desirable dogma will dig their heels in tighter. Take this with economic instability and military action becoming more commonplace in too many areas, it is going to be an interesting time to see how social norms and mental health continues as religious communities struggle to decide where they want to develop.
