[up]This is an official product?

Also, it's clear that it was this version of the 87 Turtles that teamed up with the 2012 ones.

Oh cool, a super official retro game with a new storyline

...On the other hand, THAT intro makes me crave an eleventh season of Fred Wolf

[up]Took me longer than it should have to realize you were referring to Fred Wolf, the animator behind the original 1987 Turtles series...

Honestly, TMNT franchise loves that cartoon so much I'm starting to think one of these days they will actually revive it.

I kind of wish Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got a stylish action brawler too. Persona 5 Strikers' take on the Dynasty Warriors feels like it would have fit the animesque nature of that series. The only notable video game appearances the Rise crew are featured in is the crossover mobile game Nickelodeon Super Brawl Universe.

Even the 1987 Turtles have a new mobile game in the form of Mutant Madness:

What do you mean by "even"? This is exactly what I'm talking about. Original Turtles are constantly being brought back. They had crossovers with both previous cartoons. They were added as skins in Smite. They're everywhere. In contrast, look how quickly 2012 TMNT vanished.

Nice that this is a game but I am really not that into the 80's series.

Really prefer the others like early 2000's one.

[up] Same. If anything I feel like the 80's cartoon has received enough and excessive exposure and favoritism over the years while the other versions are ignored constantly.

Yeah especially since no offense but after watching that trailer I'm reminded I really do not gel with the 80's designs.

Especially Shredder, he looks so incredibly plain.

[up]x5: You're absolutely right. Now we just need a Western series to make the big jump into that format.

[up]Honestly, it's almost surprising that the 2003 series got representation for Paramount+' crossover series of ads with its version of Leonardo (even if he was a silent presence). I only note "almost" as the 2003 series is the only Turtles series on the service at the moment, so it makes sense.

For the most part, the video games during the Viacom-owned era have mostly been mobile games and console releases taking (loose) inspiration from the 2012 series, IDW comics, and 1987 series.

I'd have loved it if Rise got a decent fighting game.

I feel like the characters would have a lot of moveset potential, like Leonardo would be great at baiting and confusing his opponents or Raphael puts pressure on his opponents. And Shredder would be the overpowered playable boss character.

I'd love a revival of the '87 Turtles, as in, the first 6 episodes that comprise Season 1 in 1987. With the darker color palette, gritty semi-cyberpunk dystopian looking New York that had street hustlers, machine gun toting grandmas. Because the goofy, perpetually smiling Turtles that fought mutant bananas that everyone considers the "80's turtles" wasn't how it all started.

The lighthearted wacky bits in the first episodes, like the overflowing bubble bath, pushing the van up the stairs to Baxter's workshop, etc was there to offset and balance out the darkness, and I'd like to revisit that original tone with the 87's look before the cheese took over completely like in the rest of the series until red skies. smile

Andre of Black Nerd Comedy talks a bit about the Shredder's Revenge intro and what he thinks would be best for a TMNT '87 revival

I think the lesson is retro games can make great material for bringing back older properties at a lesser cost.

I'm waiting on my Masters of the Universe brawler and Voltron 84 2D shooter as soon as the rights to those properties are straightened out.

I watched a lot of the 1987 series, but I don't think I ever noticed that Shredder sometimes changed his voice. For the most part, he was voiced by James Avery, but he wasn't always available, and sometime they'd call in a pinch hitter, until Avery left the show for good and was replaced entirely. Shredder had a total of six voice actors in that series, counting Avery. Now, I think most people prefer Avery's performance, but since he's not with us anymore, which Shredder voice do you think was the second best? I honestly think Kevin Michael Richardson did a better job in the 2012 crossover episode than any of the other guys they got to fill in for Avery in the 1987 series.

Kevin Michael Richardson is definitely who they should get if they ever need an '80's shredder.

Out of the original guys, Jim Cummings did the best impression, but the rest were all servicable.

Hoon Lee did an awesome Shredder as did Scottie Ray, but for a humorous and unintimidating Shredder Kevin Michael is definitely my pick, his tone seems the more manageable to that kind of character

But he’s already played as the 2012 one, one of the most serious Shredders.

If we don't count 1987 Shredder for a sec, every iteration of Oroku Saki is just a dour, always serious guy, incapable of joy. He never smiles, and in the case of the 2012 Saki, I think he may literally be incapable of doing so. The 1987 Shredder is the only one who ever has any levity, and it's mostly in the form of word play when he berates Rocksteady and Bebop, or when he gets into an argument with Kraang.

Can you imagine if they continued and finally adapted toy characters that never showed up in the series?

(For reference: Ace Duck, Fugitoid, Panda Khan, Ray Fillet, Pizzaface, Sgt. Bananas, Walkabout, Wyrm, Monty Moose, Doctor El, King Lionheart, Hothead, Scale Tail, Sandstorm, Scratch, Hot Spot, and Halfcourt)

I mean, many of those never showed up in any TMNT medium, period. I can see why, many of the later toys were just animal + job/nationality/stereotype, like Hot Stop being a dalmatian firefighter, Monty Moose being Canadian mountie, or Halfcourt being a giraffe basketball player. This kind of idea worked for Mondo Gecko and pretty much no one else.

Funny how the 2012 series had Fugitoid (who actually predates the TMNT's first comic to boot), Pizza Face and Wyrm actually debut

[down] Yep. He was there too, mainly because he was a character from the Mirage comics so the 2003 producers felt compelled to include him
