[up] Well, first of all... Why would Ichigo abandon his life in the Human World for becoming the new Kenpachi? I could understand if the story takes place after he died naturally and went to Soul Society, since he no longer has anything really tying him down to the world of the living.

[up]Takes place, like I said, during their first encounter during the Save Rukia Arc (dunno official name, don't care). THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT. I mean, at the very least, Ichigo might do a lot of delegating to the seated officers and manage things from the living world for example. Heck, do the 11s even HAVE management?

You're talking about Red Warrior of Light's fic, aren't you?

They have to have management in some form. I highly doubt that Yamamoto would excuse the division from doing the paperwork that he expects from every other division for any reason.

Might be, there were two different ones - one where Unohana is In Love With Ichigo's Carnage, and I think the other one was Ichigo/Orihime and/or Ichigo/harem. They both kinda sucked.

I thought he only did one fic where Ichigo kills Kenpachi during their first fight and takes up his title and position.

Two different people wrote a fic with basically the same premise.

Yeah, as Marq said, I think the biggest issue here is why would Ichigo want to stay in Soul Society unless he was dead?

Off the top of my head, if I had to have Ichigo taking over the 11th, I'd probably start by having Byakuya kill Ichigo when they retrieve Rukia, and Urahara restoring his powers as before (only he was already dead). The whole gang then goes with him to SS (and if you think about it, if he's already dead, and can't really go back to the living world, going in to stir trouble is kind of a really crazy thing to do for Ichigo), he kills Kenpachi as described but there's no speech of any kind, and the arc proceeds as before for Ichigo.

Without Kenpachi in the picture that leaves the rescue arc with a few loose ends: there's nobody to break the others out of jail (though they really didn't do much after that), Komamura and Tousen don't fight Kenpachi (guess one could make them fight each other if Tousen shows himself to be a traitor somehow), and of course whatever happens to Yachiru. That aside, one could infuse some Ax Crazyness on Ichigo if Aizen kills Rukia. It's conceivable that the rest of the captains could endorse Ichigo in the aftermath as a new captain for the 11th, and that he'd take it as a means to get to Aizen.

Now what to do about Yachiru. Can't imagine Ichigo running around with Yachiru on his shoulder, because when he goes to hueco mundo he then gets Nel as a shoulder accessory. You can't have both Nel and Yachiru on Ichigo's shoulders as he runs around, can you?

...

Um...

Anyway. If it plays like that, I can see the whole damn 11th division invading Hueco Mundo when Ichigo does (I'm surprised they didn't do it when Kenpachi did). It _could_ be rather amusing.

Actually, I can see him having both Yachiru and Nel as Shoulder Pets... especially if it's revealed that not only is Yachiru a lot Older Than She Looks, but she also has an Older Alter Ego — who is more drop-dead gorgeous than even Matsumoto! [lol] Wouldn't that be funny?

Yeah I know, that's why I added the "...", I realized halfway through that in competent hands it could be pretty amusing :D

I could see Yachiru getting along with Ichigo even if he kills Kenny. She essentially calls Icchi "Kenny's buddy", just because they beat each other to within an inch of their respective lives once and Kenpachi enjoyed the fight; so if Kenpachi gets killed in that fight, she may still consider Ichigo a buddy. Though I bet she would take it pretty hard at first.

<_<

>_>

Hmmm, I wonder if this'll work this time: The King's Key <- the Fic of mine that I failed to pimp last time since it wouldn't let me post links.

EDIT: Well, that worked. I'm officially non-new!

Yeah, as Marq said, I think the biggest issue here is why would Ichigo want to stay in Soul Society unless he was dead?

Who says he has to want the job? My line of thought was that Ichigo manages a lucky hit and goes Off with His Head!, does a brief happy dance at having gotten a Captain out of the way, and then promptly resumes business as normal. Then, Soul Society starts hunting him.... not to punish him, but to enforce the Eleventh's rule of You Kill It, You Bought It. He promptly flips out when they tell him that he's now the de facto Captain of the Eleventh. Then, the fact that he suddenly has authority dawns on him. Cue Evil Grin.

"Eleventh Division! SAVE RUKIA, KICK THE OTHER DIVISION'S ASSES, AND COVER THE INTRUDERS' ESCAPE!!!"

None of the leaders of Seireitei are stupid enough to actually give an invader who is obviously seeking to free a wanted criminal (Rukia) actual authority. Why would Yamamoto want to enforce 11th Division's rule, anyway?

... Though, maybe the 11th Division would seek him out on their own, whether or not Yamamoto likes it.

Yamamoto is obsessed with Law, regardless of whether it's right or not, correct? I can see him trying to enforce Eleventh Division's You Kill It, You Bought It form of Klingon Promotion. He'd try to curbstomp Ichigo into submission in the process, but probably still force him into captaincy in this situation.

You overestimate Yamamoto's Knight Templar adherence to the laws of Seireitei. And AFAIK, Yamamoto technically has no direct authority over the internal affairs of any division that doesn't affect the greater Gotei 13 or the laws of Seireitei.

Pretty sure having a division without a captain affects all of Soul Society. Then again, I'm not hardcore into Bleach like I am other stuff, just more of a casual fan.

Trust me, it doesn't make sense for Yamamoto to do what you're suggesting. He's rigid about the law and authoritarian, but not stupid or senile.

You're missing something: Yachiru. Would she avenge Kenpachi?

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

Actually, according to the rules Ichigo would need 200 witnesses from the division to inherit it by combat. I suppose one could drag the fight all over the place and end up in the 11th headquarters, and gather a crowd that way, but seems a bit too contrived IMO.

As far as Yachiru goes, it really can go multiple ways. Kenpachi enjoyed the fight, so she could befriend Ichigo even after he kills Kenny (didn't it go "death is the price you pay for a good fight" or something like that? It's been ages since I've read or watched that far back). Or she could straight-up try to kill Ichigo. Or see him as a replacement goldfish for Kenny and cross into creepy territory.

A tragical logical reason for Ichigo to stay in Soul Society even without having died himself? Karin and Suzu die in an accident or something, instead.

What Toshiro Hitsugaya fanfics would you guys recommend? I reviewed Skin of Ice here, but I can't seem to find many other good ones. The same author made a really cute one-shot with Toshiro and Karin called Surprise, and that's kind of it besides for Uninvited Guests. Are there any other really good stories about him?

The thing about Hitsugaya is that you have to go through about 1,000 shipping fics before you find one that isn't.

If you don't mind crack and self-plugs, you can see a short (15k words) fic by yours truly of Toshiro and Byakuya doing battle... [1] :D From the fanfics recs page, there's [2], which is kinda Yaoi-ish/Shippish but still pretty good (Toshiro's half of the focus, the other half is Ichigo).

For reasons I have yet to grasp, I now have a sudden craving for Hanataro/Kiyone fics.
