Honestly, if you're in a page with the examples list listing "Film" and "Literature" as well as "Anime and Manga", I see no reason to assume that it's medium-specific.
Certain media do dominate page images, and I believe it does hurt the site's balance, but I doubt this is the best way to handle it.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Deadpan Snarker has a comic book image on the main page and an image on the comic book subpage. What's the plan of action (if necessary)?
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn! The pic on the comic book subpage barely qualifies as snark IMO; I'd be fine with replacing it with the pic on the main page.
Went ahead and made the replacement.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!A few weeks ago, I added the current page image on Narm.
Now that I've become aware of this thread, I guess I should move this image to Narm.Jack Chick? That page still needs a pic, but I admit it feels strange to not give the main trope page an image.
Edit: Moved it.

Let's just say and leave it at that.Yeah, if Chick's got his own page, best to move it there.
The image on What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids? was moved to the Anime/ subpage on the 20th Dec '12 1:47:51 PM by Trope Eater. Is that OK? It isn't strictly speaking anime, just features an anime.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd say move it back.
Moved. I added a note saying to not re-move the image without consulting this thread so that we don't get into edit warring.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI've just noticed this rule (there was a note for editors on one trope page). I'm also one of those who thinks it's not necessary and that it's pity not to have an image on the main page.
Nevertheless... Badass Adorable has sub-pages. Should the picture be moved to BadassAdorable.Video Games?
I moved the image.
A somewhat special case for Biting-the-Hand Humor - the page image is good, but the "animated show on Fox dissing the latter" has already it's own page: BitingTheHandHumor.Fox Animated Series.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm tempted to ask Eddie if he wants to make this a mandate.
I would make that a Wiki Talk - or this-thread - discussion.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAs a sidenote, does this still need to be pinned? Most other policy questions are dealt with in the general thread, and this one makes visual clutter.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm going to leave it for the time being...I want to ping Eddie and find out how strictly he wants this enforced.
I spoke with Eddie about this over the weekend, and while he wasn't 100% "make it happen", he still prefers to have the pics on the subpage(s).
I agree this should be un-pinned, perhaps along with the "too-quick pulls" thread, as that ceased to be relevant years ago (and its message has been incorporated into the main "IP policies" thread, anyway).

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.A bit of a necro, but yeah. I think that the messages have gotten through well enough by now.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAgreed, and done.
As I said in the Suspiciously Specific Denial.Webcomics thread, having images on subpages instead of the main page is only relevant when we have illustrations of an image from more than one medium. If not, then there will only be one image on one subpage, which is much less ideal than having it on the main page.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.
I understand why comic images would be popular... unlike film or cartoons, you can see what the characters are saying, which is often important. The format being popular is a good reason to try to avoid it.
