Yep, Kevin Smith. He's also friends with Paul Dini so there is more meta text there than just a fanboy with a weird taste in kid names.

Certainly interesting given the creative team behind it. This would be the biggest franchise project Kevin Smith has directly created.

I mean, I'm kinda bummed SPOP is ending without having a micro-shred of He-Man lore beyond Eternia and Grayskull, but this cast is still great.

I'm almost nervous about what cast will they have for that new He-Man series they'll have later... It's not like it could have the same cast as Revelation...right?

Does anyone know what kind of tone this new show is going to have? They say it's a sequel to the 80s cartoon, but I suspect it will be a bit more serious than that. And even though they say its a sequel, I expect that it's only sequel to the broad strokes of the old series.

[up]Kevin Smith has repeatedly used the word "metal". I feel like Mattel wants to tap 90’s Berserk just to further contrast SPOP.

A few days ago, a sensationalist Youtube channel claimed they had insider information that the plot of MOTU Revelation would have Teela and her girlfriend replace He-Man.

Kevin Smith himself responded to that rumor and said it was baseless.

They have She-Ra if they ever want to make a female led story of that universe. Beyond improbable, that one feels redundant.

With that rumor done, who wants to hear what Mark Hamill’s Skeletor (and Evil Lyn) sounds like? Someone synched a few clips from a conference call to old Filmation footage.

[up]x2: As if I didn't need more of a reason to warn people not to take these "reporters" like ClownfishTV seriously. It's become a general problem where "My Uncle Works At Nintendo" rumours are being spouted and believed because of these folks, just to incite more outrage culture.

So the first episode could potentially be like those video game franchises that have a nostalgic first level stage before things get more complicated?

Something I found VERY interesting is that Smith cites Netflix executive Ted Biaselli as being a huge fan of MOTU and says Ted (or Teddy as Smith affectionally called him) actively courted several MOTU projects including the LA movie. (There may also be something said about She-Ra getting next to no promotion from Netflix if Biaselli didn’t find it agreeable).

[up][up][up] I have heard that before, from other sources. What Kevin Smith shot down was a ridiculous rumor started by Clown Fish Tv that Teela would have a lesbian lover and Teela and the lover would save the day, while He-Man does nothing.

When you think about it, Teela would have more of an arc than He-Man would, Teela is the Sorceress' daughter and can pick up that mantel if Skeletor kills the Sorceress, really most of the plot threads from He-Man mythos that could be explored would center around Teela being the Sorceress' daughter and Skeletor secretly being Keldor. Randor's brother. He-Man being out of commission and Teela having to do some of the heavy lifting at first is fine.

Screen Rant could still be wrong though.

[up]It’s not impossible to do. The Hour of the Dragon focuses equal time on Conan The Barbarian and Zenobia, the woman who eventually becomes Conan’s queen. You can do both.

It’s just weird and kind of frustrating because Smith has repeatedly shut this rumor down. He shut it down when the initial copy promised Teela was going to have a big part in the series and said she was going to be important but He-Man was the main character, he shut down the “lol this is She-Ra again” rumor, and here it is, back again. It feels like all the naysayers want it to be this embarrassing mess so they have something to be angry about.

[up] Frankly I do not trust the naysayers because a lot of them are clickbait, nerd outrage sites like Clown Fish TV and at a certain point, I think creators should have the freedom to experiment, rather than be beholden to a small subset group of fans who are empowered by nerd nostalgia and fear any kind of change. Why should I respect their opinions, when all they seem to do complain and often cannot articulate a vision of what they want to see from fiction which is not just nerd nostalgia?

What character arc could you give Adam/He-Man from the Filmation cartoon at this point?

[up]Finally resolving his inner resentments about not being seen as a hero. A lot of the comics and the like show he’s not fond of his secret identity as the court fop, and the 2002 series was running with the idea his feelings for Teela sort of mirrored those King Grayskull had for the Sorceress, a love that the latter’s duty would make impossible to be. That ties into Teela’s own character arc of the mantle of Sorceress and safeguarding the Power of Grayskull.

[up] That's fine, if he revealed his identity to his friends and allies, that could be interesting, I think the juiciest stuff is with Skeletor and Teela, but that is not a bad arc for He-Man.

[up] I mean. Adora wound up revealing herself as She-Ra in SPOP, so it renders Adam needing to keep his double life as He-Man a secret as rather pointless.

So...

The show is called "He-Man and the Master's of the Universe." I think you're safe in assuming that He-Man is the main character.

The stuff about Teela sounds like people trying to start a fight by stirring up sexist nerd rage, as in "We're taking this property that was previously about a man and making it about a woman, making her a lesbian, and making the previous hero a feckless loser. Yay womynkind, sisters!" Because all women want to do is take nerds' toys away from them and spit on their happy memories (and yes, this sentence is sarcasm).
