I love Dotty's body language here.
Gosh it's weird as a Brit hear people talk about alcohol the way people talk about weed. Drinking is so abundantly commonplace here that it's hard to believe anyone at eighteen wouldn't have some understanding of what effects alcohol would have.
It's legal to drink in the UK in your own home from the age of 5. (Which yes, is definitely weirder than what the states have going in with their drinking ages)

Either Dorothy is a serious light weight, or she's been looking for an excuse to goof off for a very long time.

I feel like her whole latest storyline is definitely the second.
Considering she hasn't even drained her juice yet, I'm going to have to agree. No one is that light.
The alcohol is serving as permission.
She got tipsy pretty quickly back when she threw a party for Joyce in the dorm, and they played Apples to Apples. While she is clearly making a conscious, deliberate effort to goof off and have fun, she is pretty clearly a lightweight.
Ukrainian Red CrossJoyce came here to get sloshed, and is still on target. Gotta appreciate the efficiency.
Oh, this is not going to end well, is it.
online since 1993 | huge retrocomputing and TV nerd | lee4hmz.info (under construction) | heapershangout.comProbably worth noting that the disinhibiting effect of alcohol is very much influenced by the placebo/nocebo effect. People like an excuse to let go.
That is too much, but maybe the whisky will taste gross enough they won't have that much?
Jen and Joe's reactions are the best. Joyce brings out the best in them, and the two of them look genuinely happy for her. While I have no doubt this night is gonna turn fubar later, at the very least, these two being happy for her is what's important right now. I've said before how they tended to be the only ones who didn't reject Joyce changing as a person, and it really shows here, as this behavior is as far from who Joyce was last semester as possible, but they're nothing but supportive of her.
Vegeta: I'm back bitches!Oh Becky :'(
She's going to give Dorothy a "Wakey wakey", isn't she?
Ukrainian Red CrossI think Becky is increasingly legitimised in her concerns about Dotty getting to have a type of friendship with Joyce she never could.
If I were Becky I'd probably be feeling threatened too if I saw this
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. But Joyce is still gonna need to work hard for that one
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. At the start of this arc, I predicted that this would be the day Joyce has sex. I retract that prediction; instead, she will proposition Joe for sex, but Joe will turn her down because she's drunk. That would make for a nice parallel to when she propositioned him back in It's Walky!.
Speaking of Joe and Joyce, I realised that Dorothy can't keep Joe out of her life. First she dates Joe's best friend. She dumps him, but then her new friend starts dating Joe.

Ukrainian Red CrossIs it me or does evert comic with these two seems like they are extremely close to having a drunken kiss?
I am begining to buy into the theory that Dotty does have an attraction to Joyce she's not aware of, and Joyce is just conditioned to expect this kind of behaviour from her female best friend.
Thought that was someone else for a second
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.
Put like that, I half expect things to go the other way around, with Joyce having to be Dorothy's minder.
