Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

RIP if they ever actually need a Stone, though.
Wake me up at your own risk. They can always just introduce new things to fill their place if that happens. It’s not like the Marvel Universe is wanting for crazy powerful concepts.
Hell, the Cosmic Cube was toned down for the MCU. And with the Fantastic Four eventually coming in, how long until we see the ultimate “I win” button - the Ultimate Nullifier?

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Doctor Strange was looking for a universe where they beat Thanos but also Tony Stark dies.
That's what he gets for sass-talking him.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The exact moment Strange decided to leave Stark dead.
Pettiness on a scale hitherto undreamt of.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."The time machine still works, so if they need a stone in the future they could always go back to where Cap returned them and pick one up.
... Now I'm imagining Cap about to return a stone, and getting interrupted by a future character asking to borrow it, returning a second later to bring it back, only to be followed by another future character, and another, and another... at which point Cap loses it and says "Look, let me put this darn stone here so you can all take it later and let me have my dance in peace."
In fact, the time machine allows any deceased character to be brought back to the present if needed (possibly sending them back afterwards if they don't like the future). Death has officially become cheap in the MCU.
As for the villain in Falcon and Winter Soldier, I have been waiting for some time for Arnim Zola to reappear with a robot body (come on, the guy probably thought to make a backup of himself). I don't think that's the villain they are talking about, but it would make an interesting antagonist for Bucky.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Maybe they'll finally do something with Abomination.
With all the shakeups that have happened between SHIELD falling and the Snap and all everything, its going to be amazing if they managed to keep him locked up.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAbomination's just been running a food cart on Main this whole time and nobody noticed.
Consider me as part of the Zola camp. He’s still one of my favorite MCU villains, and he ‘died’ too soon.
It's been 3000 years…Zola wouldn't be hard to bring back. Once you have a robot/cyborg as a villain, it's easy to bring them back with the old "they had back-up copy" excuse.
Although, that excuse could also work with Ultron... Hmmm...
Obviously it’s gonna be MODOK. Just you wait.
Wouldn’t mind that at all. He is officially a Captain America villain after all.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Danny Devito for giant MODOK head.
Okay, how about that but he’s Gilbert Gottfried instead?
It's been 3000 years…You joke, but this is similar to something that actually happened in the comics. Abomination went out walking in public in broad daylight, and nobody else around him even noticed. It was apparently a commentary on how people try to avoid thinking about everyone else around them.
Disgusted, but not surprisedGiven that Hulk's like the Tony the Tiger of superheroes now, it'd be fun if he did have some radical Silver Age style dust ups with his enemies in the intervening years.
With half his jailers dusted, Abomination breaks out of his Arctic prison. He goes to have a rematch against Hulk, and receives the most confusing ass-whuppin' of his life as Hulk does so while spouting catchphrases and telling the kids around him to exercise.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Maybe they just aren't up to date on all of the supervillains and didn't want to appear rude by staring.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome Rob> Danny Devito for giant MODOK head.
no hes wolverine
MODOK will be played by eddy murphy
New theme music also a box"I'm MODOK, dammit!"
When you say here's the Tony the Tiger, what do you mean?
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"He's the most recognisable face of superheros basically
New theme music also a boxHe's a cheesy, highly animated role model with a noticeable catchphrase and a gaggle of equally cheesy kid fans.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Probably avoids going to the Bronx.
He's probably going to be in the She Hulk show, though.
I have a theory about the "which future did they need" thing, though.
I think Dr. Strange was looking for a future not where they win in the short term, but where they win in the long term. Thanos and his organization were evidently quite long lived, and even if they were all defeated the stones an the gauntlet were still out there - nothing to stop someone from getting their hands on them a hundred years later and remaking the universe.
Sure, they could have beaten Thanos on Titan had Quill not screwed up. But they didn't need to win that day. Thanos needed to win that day. Because once he did, he destroyed the stones - removing their threat forever.
Then they needed Tony still alive to invent the time machine, to bring the stones back from the past (and subsequently return them to the past) and a team of Avengers both creative enough to think about what to do (IE Scott), the determination to do those things, and the resolution to make the sacrifices involved and so on.
The result is that Thanos is gone, the stones are gone, and everyone is back as if they never left in the first place.
