Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonWhy do so few people attend such rallies, anyway? Serious question.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think belief in the Cause is one reason to attend, so my first thought is the reverse is true.

As far as rallies go it was pretty impromptu. It was organized just a couple days ago in response to Trump's Pittsburgh before Paris speech.
The galling thing is, he's not putting Pittsburgh first. How much longer will people buy his con?

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencySooner or later, they may...
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy. At gun point, perhaps. OR death by a thousand cuts.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere are some people who will never turn on him no matter what, but they by themselves aren't enough to keep things working for him forever.
So Virginia is gonna go with the Paris agreement? That's nice, I'm glad the governor is democratic.
So is Massachusetts and our Governor is a Republican, albeit a RINO.
Trump delenda estI'm sorry, but making Kathy Griffin apologize while ignoring all the shit that Trump's crew has said... no. Leave her alone.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Does anyone else think that this "decapitation" story is getting more notice than the "hanging/shooting Obama in effigy" stories?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAlso where was all this outrage from the conservative camp when all those Obama effigies were being burned?
"Yup. That tasted purple."Of course it is-moronic as this stunt was, it is fundamentally no different than wannabe Nazis burning Obama in effigy.
"It's okay when you're a Republican."
Liberals are held to a higher standard. In other news, the sky is blue.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I don't know why you're saying that about Virginia, the real one to say that about is North Carolina.
I can't help but think that implying that types like him aren't "real Republicans" because they're not Tea-partiers or are moderates does more harm than good. Reinforcing the idea that people like that can't really be Republicans can't be good for making it less extreme. Both RINO and DINO are probably concepts we'd be much better off without.

the only real complaint I have with the guy is I wish he would increase funding for school. It hasn't increased in years.
I live in Virginia.
The beheading story is worth nothing more than a "I don't approve". There is a discussion to be had why there are actually people who believe stuff like this is funny, but I see no reason to single out this specific case. There is really more important stuff to worry about than the bad taste of one wannabe celebrity.
"The bad taste of one wannabe celebrity". Savage. I like it.
I feel like people who don't want similar statements made towards then should not do the kinds of things that Kathy did, or those that lynched and burned Obama in effigy did. It may be harsh, but that's why I try to reign in my reactions to things, so I don't do dumb things like that.
It was a poorly made and poorly thought-out statement. It was supposed to parody Trump’s "blood coming out of her whatever" misogynistic comment towards Megyn Kelly (I wonder what she thinks about this), but it could have been done so much better. It was probably beyond the scope of a single dumb picture.
The whole idea was the photographer's, not Kathy's, but she seems to be getting the brunt of the backlash.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyTYT as in Young Turks? Was this a case of NOT BERNIE BAD!!! in that the alleged shoving was from a not-progressive-enough democrat?
It doesn't matter who had the idea, she is a grown up woman and should know better.
There is an anti Paris rally in Lafayette Square. A few hundred people went.
Trump didn't attend it though. Apparently he left earlier to play golf.
