Disney-owned Freeform has picked up syndication rights starting with season 16.

It appears Family Guy's days on Adult Swim and TBS are numbered.

Oh hey, Disney owns Family Guy. Makes those anti-Disney gags incredibly awkward, am I right?

Anyone think they'll drop the Disney gags in light of the recent development?

I kinda now want them to make the Family Guy theatrical musical film that will encorporate Disney animation just like that segment from the multiverse episode.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY dont like Family Guy but this could mean the end of Toonami. The only reason its above 800k viewers is because Family Guy airs right before.

.... what da hell?? Family Guy is moving to the same network that runs Disney animated movies!?

[up]Toonami followed many shows that aren't Family Guy and they fared very well.

[up][up][up][up][up]They'll likely ask Seth to tone down on the "Walt Disney hates Jews" jokes since Walt's alleged antisemtic views are a very touchy subject for them. They might also ask them to cut back on the ethnic stereotype jokes as well.

[up]Usually those are on their "Fun Day" weekend marathons.

[up] Isn't the "Walt was antisemitic" thing largely a myth?

Pretty sure it is a myth. The Sherman Brothers were born to Russian-Jewish immigrants, and I doubt they'd do such a ridiculous amount of work with Walt if he was indeed antisemitic.

And yet Family Guy absolutely milks the Hell outta it.

Every Goddamn Disney joke always has to involve that.

Like any man of his day, he would pull racial stereotypes, but an Anti-Semitic he was not as you guys said. Family Guy just does that joke over and over again, because they are juvenile in their humor.

You know, while there are a fair number of things to legitimately criticize Seth Mac Farlene for, I've never like this tendency people have to ascribe literally everything wrong with Family Guy or even joke they don't like directly to him.

Similarly, I don't like the tendency to exclude him from everything good about American Dad, as often happens.

He has the same involvement with both shows.

FXX (now also owned by Disney) has also picked up syndication rights to season 16 onwards, suggesting that a) both Freeform and FXX will replace Adult Swim and TBS as the show's non-broadcast rerun homes, and b) Freeform could become part of the FX Networks group in the future.

Dude literally created the show of course people are going are going to blame everything they don't like about the show on him, regardless of his overall involvement because it's his fucking show

[up]Maybe if that cut both ways that would be fair enough (well, not really) but it doesn't.

As I said, people blame him for ever single joke they don't like, where as basically act as if he has no involvement in American Dad. That alone tells me it's not about actually caring about culpability, just looking for an excuse to complain about the guy.

Which as I said, is unnecessary, because there are already actually reasons to do that.

Eh, The Simpsons has used Biting-the-Hand Humor for almost 30 years and Fox doesn't care, I don't think Disney would care if Family Guy does it. But don't just resort to the anti-semitic jokes, there are so many other ways to mock them! Like portray them as power-hungry supervillains wanting to take over the world, or Mr Burns-level money hungry grubbers, to reflect how Disney owns basically everything

@RJ-19-CLOVIS-93

Disney does like to take potshot of themselves. It can be seen in their many works. However, as you said, I do think they would draw line at the false accusations about Walt being an Anti-Semitic, since it's pretty much libel. I'm surprised that Diane and Ron when they were still alive didn't sue the Family Guy staff.

And now FX Networks has just picked up the rights to air Family Guy and Bob's Burgers on FXX in 2021, putting Peter Griffin's status as a member of the Adult Swim Council in question.

I just want to start off by saying I don't really love or hate Family Guy, but why does it get so much flak for being anti-religious?

I've seen standup by comedians like Doug Stanhope or Jim Jefferies and I don't see how it's worse or more mean spirited than what they say about religion.

Popularity threshold, mostly. Comedians also generally attract people who already appreciate their material, as it's comparatively an intimate setting where you get to understand the opinion of one person, or at least appreciate their stream of consciousness thoughts. With a popular TV show opinions are filtered and diluted to where such things come across as holding a banner and advocating what everyone should think and act.
