Wait what? Oh shit time to steal Muffin's template.

Umm, it's inevitable that I'll be writing up Kyuuki along with Suketchi, but I'll try to give presidence to the former.

Suketchi: The Artist of Life

"Your spellcards are too mainstream!"

Species: Claims to be a simple art youkai, is actually a Muse.

Age: As old as the first spark of artistic inspiration

Appearence: Normally wearing a simple white sundress, straw hat and glasses, she's recently converted to a beret, red coat, and shades. Her long plum hair remains unchanged however.

Abilities: If it is a form of art, she can do it. Drawing, singing, dancing, music, writing, danmaku, and much, much more is under her domain. She also has the ability to make her art come to life in various ways; from making a drawing fly off the page, to writing a fiction which then becomes non-fiction. Unfortunately, due to recent circumstances, she's been focused on making more abstract art come to life, which has had some undesirable consiquences. Finally, she's able to bestow some of her knowledge onto aspiring artists.

Personality: While normaly a kind and docile woman, she's recently started acting more aloof and rude to anyone she meets. She claims this is how all artists in the outside world are, but everyone can see that she's just trying too hard to keep up with more modern artistic inspiration.

Unfortunately, this has had the unfortunate effect of making her critique everything she deems as "art." Whether the person she's critiquing wants it or not. She's started more than a few fights this way, but she claims it's all in the name of "modern art."

Associated Tropes: Art Initiates Life, Jerk with a Heart of Gold, Mook Maker, Cool Shades, (I will update this periodically when I'm not working on two hours of sleep)

Spellcards (Suketchi)

  • Modern Sign "Splatter of Paint": Whoops! Suketchi messed up and accidentally threw paint everywhere! Oh well, take a picture and sell it for money!
  • Lines "Human Face in an Abstract Place": These are just straight lines of danmaku. I don't see a face anywhere...
  • Empty Sign "Mastery of Negative Space": You know, I remember hearing somewhere that playing with danmaku is more about finding spaces instead of dodging bullets. Maybe she knows what she's doing after all...?
  • Art Sign "Picasso's Remembrance": Oh? What's this unusually strong bullet pattern? Is this her true nature?

Nonexistant Boss Theme: Outside World ~ Modern Inspiration

Kyuuki: The Muse with 1000 Talents

"Now behold, the beautiful art of danmaku!"

Species, Age, Appearance, and Abilities are detailed above.

Personality: When she's not putting up a tough facade, Kyuuki is a very humble and kind woman. She won't suabble over petty disagreements, and is open to any and all ideas. That's not to say she won't fight, but she'll only attack in retaliation, as she refuses to throw the first punch.

Being one of the oldest magical being alive, she's more than willing to pass on her knowledge to anyone who'll listen, but because she tends to ramble, her advice about art tends to get increasingly boring as it goes on. She much prefers just implanting her knowledge into a person's mind. Much faster and efficient.

Associated Tropes: Art Initiates Life, Mook Maker, Meganekko, Nice Gal, (more to be added)

Spellcards (Kyuuki)

  • Art Sign "Prequel": Woah! This must be a really good story if the battle starts out this strong!
  • Inspiration "Artful Sacrifice": ...Well, I guess Alice must've gotten her inspiration from somewhere.
  • Inspiration "And Then There Were None": Hey now, Kyuuki. Get some of your own spellcards!
  • Inspiration "Prism Concerto": Now she's copying the poltergeist sisters...Use your own spellcards already!
  • Cake Sign "Wedding Between Royals": Woah! Look at all these layers! Now this is more like it!
  • Building Sign "Eifel Tower": Wow! So tall and gandoise...Was this amazing work of arcitecture really her idea?
  • Dance Sign "Tango of Roses": Each and every step is preformed flawlessly and beautifully...It's unreal.
  • Ancient Sign "Stonehenge": So those circle of rocks is just art? Who knew.
  • Paint Sign "Smile of the Mona Lisa": Look at this danmaku pattern! I highly doubt that any other resident of Gensokyo could duplicate this!
  • "Art of War": Ow wow, she's really going all out now. I guess she considers fighting an artform. If you can get to this spellcard, then you're a true admirer of the arts!

I wonder how Keine would feel about that.

Of course, if things start to get really dicey, there's always Yukari and the border between truth and interpretation.

That is a really interesting concept you've got there...

Plus it's nice to see something from a different mythology than the standard Touhou stuff (the muses being from Greek mythology.)

What, the disctriptions for the spellcards? I was trying to be ZUN to be honest, with how he makes silly comments for the spellcards in his games, or like Aya/Hatate in the camera games.

This forum needs a better interface for making and editing posts. I've come to dread updating the queue because it's so cumbersome to scroll through the giant post with the tiny window I'm given. It becomes even more frustrating when I see the acre of blank space on the page that could fit a larger window...

Anyway queue's updated

Also, I want to encourage people to go back and pass out interests to queue entries that they may have overlooked. The more interests get passed out to more toons, the stronger the system will be. *

On that note...

Maggey - 1 interest. Seems like just another Aya Expy to me, but the underground aspect at least makes her more interesting than Hatate.

Evangeline - BLUH BLUH 2 interests. Looks like fun.

Bingo - Not feeling it. The cynical Fourth-Wall Observer angle doesn't really vibe with me, and he seems like a sloppy self-insert (that quote is definitely something that you'd say, and makes no sense for an in-universe toon to say it).

Slenda - Not feeling it. Seems rather generic (fitting, I guess?) and clashes with the tone of Touhou, both by being visually disturbing, and too passive. A Shrinking Violet has very little place in a world where dramatic, flamboyant duels occur over who gets the last slice of pizza.

Cyndy - There isn't much for me to say. She hides, and that's about it. No interests here, because I cant find anything to be interested in.

Before I forget, I should mention that I lumped Suketchi and Kyuuki as one character and cleared both entries from the queue while updating.

Added Kyuuki stuff. Also 2 interests to Kyler's Ayumu. The power of misdirection sounds fun to have.

I'll be interested to see how Ayumu turns out, too. Kyler and I sort of worked on her together, but we haven't been in contact about it lately and I'll bet our ideas grew apart since then.

Dance Sign "Tango of Roses"
I'm imagining an amalgamation of Patchy's "Mercury Poison" and Koishi's "Subterranean Rose".

It's like a significantly less dense version of "Mercury Poison", but there's an area where the whatever bullet happens to be in it blossoms out like the bullets in "Subterranean Rose". This area starts where Kyuuki is, and slowly follows you around on the screen.

[up] Haven't really had a chance to think about her character for a while, to be honest.

Wait, how's that going to work out, anyway? Are we going to be like co-writers for her writeup, or something?

I figured that we could do separate shorter writeups. You could go first, if you'd like, or I would. Xion would only have to link the first one, since the second would be within the discussion.

And to tell the truth, I haven't been thinking of her much lately, either.

That... may be even worse. Yahtzee's a fun character, but someone that bitter has little place in Gensokyo. *

You put more thought into it than I have. She's supposed to be an Extra level boss if that means anything. Suketchi is stage 2.

So, I feel the need to remind people who have "Homecoming Queens", as I've called them, that I'm still awaiting those republishings.

I don't actually feel too comfortable moving to quickly ahead until we've cleared those up.

^^ A spellcard's difficulty just depends on how many bullets and lasers you're filling the screen with. Well, not always, but you get the idea?

Anyway, yeah, spellcard design. That's kind of my thing in these threads.

After sending PM's to people who had homecoming queens but hadn't participated in the new thread yet, 3 didn't respond (and hadn't made any posts in a month, so I assume they just vanished from the fora altogether), and Bocaj gave me a Mathematician's Answer.

So I'll take up the mantle. Going in order of how much the creator has participated in the POCC from least (those who dropped off the face of the earth) to greatest (Ruki and Kyler), I will republish the entries from the original OCC myself, providing my own write-ups (I need the practice anyway). I'm going to go at a pace of one every other day, and I'm handling the ones where the creator has next to no chance of coming back any time soon, so those who don't want me to publish their characters have more than a week to do it themselves.

To keep a good flow of the new coming in with the old, Hanabi is now open for publishing. Metaflare, we await your write-up! Meanwhile, I'll be starting my own mission with Kusari, by WORLD Tree.
