I would suggest using asterisks to emphasize certain non-title words. *Kinda like this*. I can agree with a ban on allcaps, but there's gotta be some way to allow such nuances. It's only a natural part of human speech.

Use italics. Nothing looks more juvey than to use ALLCAPS or those mis-used asterisks.

Rats! The disclaimer I added to the /DethroningMoment/ pages does include a ban on italics for emphasis.

Well, that is just wrong.

There are three different uses for italics that I know of of which I know:

1. Work titles.

2. Emphasis on specific words to make the flow of the text make sense and clue the reader in to read it as the author intended.

3. Tropers trying to make examples seem harsher than they are/unnecessary emphasis.

Uses 1 and 2 are important enough not to ban italics.

I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!

The power of the Darth Wiki invested in me allows me to necro this thread! evil grin

I would like permission to expand on the "no allcaps, bold, or italics for emphasis" thing to cover multiple exclamation points too — it can come up as a way to get around the existing rule. Although it appears the ban on italics is up for debate, this is closer to the problems caused by *s or caps (e.g. being so messy).

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I for one wouldn't mind to ban any emphasis altogether.

I've been getting annoyed by Fallen Creator of late. I see a number of video game companies listed there that break the rules by being successful and profitable. I nuked Capcom, but apparently EA and THQ are there as well. Really? I think we have a major problem with people misunderstanding it.

With Fallen Creator, I see basically two options: Either curate it and remove bad examples or remove it through TRS.

Also seeking opinions about Wall Banger in the linked TRS thread.

[up][up]Maybe we could make like with Complete Monster and manage it through its own thread? The entries seem to require a bit more thought and research behind them than our norm.

What's precedent ever done for us?

For a complaining page? I don't think it's worth it.
