Spider-Man General Discussion

I had to do a check and...yeah, he's one of four writers on that movie. Strangely, he's the sole male while the other three are female. And he's also on Deadpool 3. Fun.

Actually, Alliterator recently got me into a sidebar DM about it. They made some valid points about this whole thing, but it still feels like a dick move on all parties involved. Like, there had to have been a better solution than this.

But thanks to alliterator, I'm less outraged about it and more just plain grumpy that they're resorting to such a cheap stunt, but at least I'm more inclined to suspect this is just finite.

Another page leaked, Nice touching multi-panel sequence of Peter and Kamala talking without their masks before she passes away. I can't make out her 'last words' though, the scan is a bit blurry. She's got a hint of Dull Surprise around her face

This would be like if they killed off Robin in a Wonder Woman book. It's absurd. I know we talked about how it might be Cap who bites it, but he appeared in this run multiple times, at the very least. It felt like Kamala was only here to set up her miniseries, honestly.

One other possibility, with how some on some communities aren't 100% buying this is legit, is that John Romita Jr has been commissioned to draw 'multiple' endings...Zeb's a TV guy so he'd know all about that trade.

It happened with Dallas Do we have any comic book examples?

Update: Nick Lowe confirms the leaks are real/ It will not surprise me in the slightest to find Marvel themselves leaked them.

Not to mention killing one of the most high profile minority heroes for shock value. It's a pretty bad look, all around.

Eh, it's comics, I'm sure it's gonna be a fakeout or two.

This run really is a mess, it's just nonsense

What a weird decision since this isn't even her book?.

She's not even a A member of his supporting cast.

Like I I know it won't stick lol. But if so why do it all and hype it.. Baffling.

So many people were questioning why Kamala is even in this book to begin with as a coworker in Oscorp and getting her own Dark Web tie-ins

I guess this is why

So they brought in the one popular muslim/southeast asian superhero girl Kamala into this hated Spider-Man run to kill her off for shock value and potentially start the solo run for MJ, a white woman, during AAPI month

Here I thought the clone of Thor brutally murdering Black Goliath, he's still dead btw, was a yikes moment.

I might have already pointed this out, but I will be LIVID if this is how MJ gets a solo book and even more so if she goes by "Ms. Marvel".

Because if that isn't being tone-deaf in the grossest possible way, I legit don't know what is. And I won't be surprised if they cancel it in 6 or 12 issues due to poor sales.

Never forget the best female solo run was Spider-Girl at 100 issues.

Re spoilers, leaks and speculation as to what follows:

Have we had any evidence that there will be a new MJ book? Let alone that she'll adopt a "Marvel" identity? If not, it's far more likely that Kamala will be back to coincide with The Marvels, relaunched in her own book. And MJ will remain as part of Peter's supporting cast.

I'm not ruling out the possibility that the leaked art is doctored deliberately to preserve a different twist, mind you.

Zeb has said in interviews this storyline is Mary Jane's superhero origin story, the MJ/Black Cat mini-series was a trial run for her with her new powers, and the teaser in this year's 'Timeless' shows someone wearing a Jackpot belt with three lucky "7"s, so either MJ gets another book partenered with Felicia, stays in Amazing, or becomes a new hero with her own book. I speculated she could become the new Ms. Marvel rather than Jackpot if she is somehow responsible for Kamala's death

My biggest Marvel Yikes, and trust me there’s a lot of them, was when Crossbones killed Sabra and it was treated as a joke.

For reference, Sabra is a Jewish heroine who can fight the Hulk to a standstill, and Crossbones is a racist, misogynist sexual predator with an ordinary gun.

You know you’ve got a yikes when the writer retcons it in less than a day VIA TWITTER POST.

And this actually also happened in a Spider-Man book.

Well at least that was retconed Black Goliath is still six feet under in chains no less.

This is why I hate killing off less popular characters for shock value deaths. They actually stay dead if no new editor remembers them.

I don't know why they thought it was a good idea. Even if it's temporary, killing her off isn't a good look.

Goliath has since been replaced by a nephew or cousin or something. I remember him showing up in War of Realms.

I don’t remember much about him other than chip on shoulder and angry which is just wow going right for the angry black man stereotype

Because let's be honest this train wreck of a run has generated a lot of buzz for how brain dead the decisions have been.

Peter has been taken more L's than Yamcha.

So why not add Responsible for the death of Kamala Khan to his list of fuck ups that will make the entire superhero community hate him more

Well, they were right. This is the most shocking ASM issue in 50 years.

I'm shocked at how stupid it is.

Spencer at least seemed like he was trying to fix various issues with the title and tell a story from the heart.

Fans still clawed each other’s eyes out over whether he succeeded, of course.
