So, I figured I'd start this thread. It seems to be okay. I'll admit, I was whelmed by Anime.Iron Man, but decided to give this one a chance too. Again, overall kind of meh, but it still is okay action.

Also, within one minute of the start, there are scuba divers with jet packs shooting lasers at Wolverine.

I will still defend the soundtrack of both though. The animation and plot may not be great, but the soundtrack is still awesome.

I read the synopsis and...for me anyways, the plot appears to be really really really...something...familiar in a negative way?  *

Also,

I was whelmed by Anime.Iron Man,
first time I saw someone use the word "whelmed" without an over or under before it...so what does it mean when you say the iron man anime whelmed you?

What I must wonder is...why take place in Japan? What's wrong with Canada? C'mon, I don't mind laughing at a japanese's attempt at a french stereotype...

And the villains can be battallion of corrupt Mounties and Seal-hunters!

Also, I thought Logan already has Jean...or Phoenix...or whatshername...

Well, after years of Western comic artists establishing Logan as a horny bastard, it's nice to see that the animation studios are keeping up the tradition.

In other news, what the fuck happened to Iron Man's animation? The first trailer actually looked like a nice visual style, the finished product was "meh" city.

It actually seems to be a (very loose) adaptation of the famous "Wolvie in japan" arc, by Frank Miller before he became the Frank Miller we all know and loathe.

Well, I guess I'll have to watch something. No high expectations, though.

Seeing Wolverine getting pummelled like that felt kinda weird. Also, I noticed that Sabretooth either made a cameo in the ending titles. I wonder if we get to see a beastman-to-beastman battle.

B-. Good action scenes, and at least the writing doesn't have to make sense as with Iron Man. Still not very engaging, and just weird in some places. And the Good Thing You Can Heal bits were sometimes just ridiculously fast, though I have no idea how the original handled that one.

Whelmed was a joke from the new Young Justice League series, it's what Robin said.

On Iron Man anime animation: budget. It was the same studio that made it, they just needed to stretch the budget. At the quality displayed in the first commercial, it likely would have cost more than a couple of series to animate like that for an hour or so.

One of Wolverine's rogues is the Silver Samurai for a reason. Except outside of the rare occasions, most of his time in Japan is already over, the past memory amnesia stuff. So there is a chance this is just one of those brief periods and Wolverine will be back in Canada/New York later.

Oh, and since when did we loathe the guy who made robo cop and Dark Knight Returns?

I am having trouble accepting a Bishounen Wolverine. He's supposed to be ruggedly handsome, with emphasis on the rugged.

Other then that... just sort of- meh.

I dropped it before the episode ended.

Not that I hated it, just nothing there to hold my interest.

Well, I'm glad they changed the original bishie Wolverine. He looked much more bishie in that. He's got some body hair apparently. And the mutton chops.

And episode 2 is up. And I am wondering why I'm still watching this. Slight spoilers below, but I doubt anyone else would want to suffer through this.

For starters, I already hate Yukio. Absolute Cleavage is a dumb trope on anyone that isn't a hot sorceress or demoness, especially if your profession depends on you being unnoticed. The fact that her weapon is just silly  *

doesn't really help either. Why is she there anyway? We already got a badass hand-to-hand combatant, who already has a Love Interest, we don't need 'sexy assassin #9001' to take away screentime from him.

And then there was that dude who appeared at the end, who isn't that bad, but apparently has a mutant power that makes him grow a full length katana out of the palm of his hand. Which, if you think about it, is completely retarded, for pretty much the same reasons as with the previously mentioned weapons. I'm sure that they are trying to play the Evil Counterpart, but I would be a whole lot more looking forward to the next episode if he just had a regular sword and some other power to even things out. Logan's claws are already pushing it, but at least they are actually a viable option for a hand-to-hand weapon.

And shoddy writing, to top it all off.

You know, who writes this stuff anyway? There is something about the whole thing that makes me suspect that the actual writer isn't Japanese. For example, the way both Iron Man and Wolverine have to deal exclusively with 'typically Japanese' friends and foes, as if those are the exotic ones, how there are no lyrics to the opening and ending theme, as well as some other things that I can't quite put my finger on but see only in western animation.

The whole thing feels as if some western (or possibly Korean, wouldn't surprise me) writer looked at 'things that westerners think is cool about Japan' and crammed every single one of them in both series, and called it a day. And you know what? It sucks.

Oh well, action scenes are somewhat decent, I don't have much else to watch, and at least I get to type down rants that no one actually reads. Peace.

As mentioned, it's based on a story from the 80's (at least loosely) and the characters conform to that.

Yeah, this is one of the times where Tokyo Is the Center of the Universe isn't Creator Provincialism- Wolverine's back story actually does include time in Japan.

Yep. All the odd stuff isn't Adaptation Fail it's just the way the story goes.

Blame Miller and Claremont :p

So the story was like this even back then?

If I wanted to see a Marvel property get an anime, I'd rather see Ultimo get an anime instead...atleast that series have some merits...and by merits I mean an Actually Pretty Funny Not What It Looks Like scene...as well as a sexy elementary school teacher villain who is implied to be lustful...plus I like Shaman King...

Well, this series has changed a lot of stuff (mostly so that they can fill 12 episodes with a pretty thin plot), but the basic premise is the same : Logan tries to save Mariko from her evil crimelord father Shingen, with the help of Stripperific freelance ninja Yukio. Cue tons of of clichés about Japanese "duty".

Ok, has anyone else noticed this is basically a retelling of Chris Claremont's first Wolverine solo story so far? Just making sure.

ALSO A GUY WHO HAS A POWER JUST LIKE WOLVERINE EXCEPT WITH A KATANA AHAHAHA THAT IS AMAZING!

^Yeah, but in Iron Man that ended with Stark kicking him in the face and going 'Frontier Spirit fuck yeah!' and seemed to dig and Japanese hyper-nationalism.

I was kind of okay with Iron Man doing it because he's not a melee fighter. Plus the aforementioned gut kick was hilarious.

^The thing is the idea of Wolverine as a failed gaijin samurai isn't unique to the anime. That was in the original comic too.

^^Nope. He seems like an original character. Also, fuck dudepeel.
