"Where it's realised in areas that are actually having this under control then reelase later in the other countries as they improve."

They tried with Tenet... didn't work. But obviously James Bond is a tried and true IP that attracts moviegoers in droves whereas Tenet had just Nolan's name to itself, Bond could easily gross more, but perhaps it wouldn't even reach Spectre unless it goes bananas in China.

The makers of Hitman have announced a James Bond prequel game

So, RIP Tanya Roberts... I had hopes the goofup would mean good news, but nope as it turned out.

Completely random thought: I'm not the only one who thinks "Luna Lovegood" sounds like a Bond Girl name, am I?

Never thought of that before but now that I am, you are 100% correct.

Her father's name, Xenophilius Lovegood, also kinda sounds like a Bond villain name.

Also, a few years back there were rumors that Ariel Winter (Alex from Modern Family) was being looked at for a Bond Girl. Very glad that was bunk - would make the Tanya Roberts (RIP) age difference look healthy - but it occurred to me that she basically has a Bond Girl Name in real life.

The name is looking increasingly poorly chosen for sure. There'll be trailers for the next Bond movie attached to this one by the time it actually gets released at this rate.

Okay yeah this film has been delayed so many damn times that something has to be going on. Is the film that bad. Like we've had truly terrible stuff before it can't be that bad.

I sort of wonder if this series needs a break. Not a permanent end, but a break. The recent movies have had extreme levels of production troubles, they’ve been jumping through hoops to keep Craig even though the man himself has repeatedly said he wants to leave the role, and there is of course the series’ infamous association with misogyny - shortly before the lockdown I was actually paging through a recent book on the Weinstein Effect in the library and had a dark chuckle when I saw the book specifically cited the infamous “literal roll in the hay” scene from Goldfinger as an example of pop culture portraying toxic masculinity positively.

I wouldn't mind a break honestly at least for a few years. Spectre was a mess because of how rushed everything it was and gave us the goofiest villain motivation ever : Blofeld's father didn't skii with him....

It clearly needed rewrites.

No, it's definitely not because of production trouble. The movie has been done for a while now. They just won't release it.

[up][up][up]A break? We've had only two new Bond films in the last thirteen years.

Bond movies already have a blueprint for making a Bond character who isn't a coarse woman hater in Brosnan's interpretation. The reason it feels like the series is burnt out is because Daniel Craig is bored and boring, because the series can only get so far mining meta-contextual questioning of the series' relevance before they either give up or revert back to sincerity, and because they're whiffing on finding the right creative team.

And, remember, Goldfinger was a film from 1964; of course there's misogyny there.

[up][up] While that all's accurate, I think there's another problem in play: by making the Craig films an explicit reboot and by trying to make Bond's character arc matter to the stories, it no longer feels as easy to slide a new guy into the role.

Isn’t every new Bond a new continuity anyway?

EmeraldSource Since: Jan, 2021
#2446: Jan 23rd 2021 at 2:42:29 PM

No, every movie adopted a Broad Strokes approach to continuity. The relationship wasn't especially strong but Bond himself had an existing relationship with people like M, Miss Moneypenny, Q and Felix. The Craig era was notable for outright rebooting the character and showing a ground up introduction to characters.

I do agree though, the Craig era had spent time revamping Bond as a modern action spy that Skyfall helped provide a cap on it, questioning the disposable nature of 00 agents, introducing a new male M and younger Q. For me the main failing of Spectre was trying to cover the exact same material of Bond being a relic of the past but didn't have anything new to say about it.

Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!

At least for the earlier Bonds, he is still supposed to be broadly the same person, just with different accents on the character.

At the very least I highly doubt Connery’s bond (RIP) is the same as Brosnan’s considering the time and technology gap…

It's a floating timeline. They're all the same character.

It's like Batman being a 38-year old man in every comic that isn't a limited series or Batman Beyond.
