He left Extra Credits with the intention of spinning those things off a couple weeks before the harassment accusations came out, and he hasn't said anything about the situation as far as I'm aware. So either it's unrelated, or he severed ties with James but decided not to comment publicly on the issue.

Playframe is just the renamed Extra Play channel. New Frame Plus is apparently Dan's main project channel now. All his Extra Frames videos have been uploaded to it with light rebranding. This was all covered in his final EC episode, which is only related to the controversy about James if Dan's departure was what motivated Soraya to comment that now James holds all the cards.

The only public anything Dan's done on the subject is that he thanked Soraya for helping him name his new channel, but that's about it.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.

Well, I’ve gone on a Googling spree recently. Turns out r/badhistory has been talking about EC’s historicity for the better part of 3 years. There’s also a not-even-a-month-old thread on r/truegaming that was dedicated to questioning their credentials as authorities or info sources on video game development.

Also, it turns out my question of whether Austria was shelling Belgrade got answered in on of those r/badhistory threads: https://www.reddit.com/r/badhistory/comments/2izf5j/extra_credits_does_wwi_part_2_badhistory_harder/

If this "meanwhile" is in reference to Kaiser Wilhelm II.'s suggestion of only occupying Belgrade that would be the 27th of July, so indeed false reports. However, the Austrian's did shell Belgrade. At 1:00 in the morning on the 29th of July the k.u.k. Kriegsmarine fired the first shots, led by the Danube gunboat SMS Inn and a convoy of monitors that had been sent on their way down the Danube even before the official declaration had been made. I suspect Extra Credit's claim here is an amalgamation of the actual shelling of Belgrade and the false account of a Serbian attack on the Hungarian border at Temes Kubin told to the Emperor to get him to sign the actual declaration.

In other news, I have become overly petty enough to be triggered by people calling the ruler of Austria “Emperor” instead of “Kaiser”.

Is reddit for "truegaming" as bad as it sounds? I mean, my experience is that groups that put word "True" in their names tend to be jerks [lol]

Except that "Kaiser" is usually used in English to refer to the German emperor - people seem to give less of a shit about the Austrian one.

Not to mention that referring to either of them as emperor is completely fine - that's what they were.

[up]Then again, kaiser is derived from caesar, a position which was second to that of the emperor of Rome. But then so is tsar, and kaisers and tsars were both at the top of the hierarchy.

[up][up]Reddit is a bit of an anomaly. Since the site in general is the sort of community you tend to find on places that put true at the start of their names, the 'True X' subreddits are the ones that make a sincere effort to have quality links and discussions.

Kaiser still means emperor, regardless of what it's derived from.

This feels like this discussion about the word Reich I once had all over again. :/

[up][up]Why is it that I always keep seeing Redditors singled out as a particularly elitist and toxically masculine userbase as compared to every other website? Is it just the sheer size of the website?

Probably, it makes it the most visible and obvious target, I guess. High trees catch a lot of wind, after all.

Reddit's general policy of complacency with stuff like Redpill, Alt-Right and other unfavorable types. Ultimately a community will always get painted by its worst members.

Also a karma system inevitably leads to groupthink. That's why it was so roundly rejected when it was proposed for this forum.

Yeah, Ars Technica has one too, and it is terrible. People just use it to downvote arguments they disagree with or people they don't like.

It also keeps track of your "score" across your entire account not just individual posts. So it encourages you to post thing whatever subreddit you frequent will approve of, if you want a big karma score.

I know the Cracked forum has one as well, or at least it used to have one. Naturally, upvotes were given to the person rather than the post, and anybody whose karma got too high would get hit with mass downvotes just to reduce the number.

Using finial fantasy as an example is something I hadn't considered before, especially when it comes to the focus on characters, and yeah they do use the same plot a lot

I wouldn't expect much comment out of Dan on the controversy. He knew James personally for years; he can't have been totally unaware that James was a dickbag. The controversy isn't over a single thing he did one time, but of his general personality and approach to his business. Dan's probably spent years doing that thing friends do where they sit there and quietly make excuses to themselves for your terrible behavior.

And now he's doing what Channel Awesome should have done when their controversy came to light: clamming up, continuing business as usual, and waiting for the news cycle to change.

New extra with the new guy!

Focusing on the 'Spanish flu',I imagine they'll get why it's called that in later episodes

Weird that they'd only focus on the Spanish Flu. There was a whole flurry of activity and upheaval between the aftermath of the Great War and the Great Depression- the Bolshevik Revolution, the resuscitation of Turkey, Sykes-Picot, Italy's descent into fascism, Germany's collapse into a lawless, inflation-ridden political No Man's Land, Irish independence and women's suffrage in the British Isles, the first Red Scare, anything to do with Poland or Hungary, the League of Nations (which would be an especially useful topic to pull their sensationalist BS by talking about "AMERICA DOOMED US INTO WW 2 BY NOT JOINING THE LEAGUE"), and probably more. Instead they decide to just cover the influenza that managed to kill more people than the half-decade of European conflagration yet whose geopolitical effects ended up negligible at best.

[up] It's not that weird. Extra History tends to focus on specific topics and/or people. They've just decided to focus on the Flu Pandemic this time around. Also, they've done several videos on World War 1 and teamed up with Indy and the team over at The Great War on at least one occasion.
