Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Explanation of what triggers the too-long page warning
Edited by kory on Dec 18th 2023 at 2:36:21 AM
Characters.Miraculous Ladybug Heroes is displaying the warning.
I'd split the Team Miraculous section of into its own page since I've calculated the byte counts of the pages in order to check which Character Specific Pages should be merged back and that section turned out to be the longest according to my byte count.
"Stand Proud, Sukuna, you are strong" | He/HimNot too familiar with the series, so I'll take your word for it. You can go ahead.
I'll go ahead with the splits, though I have some other restructurings I want to make to the pages due to the new Character Specific Pages guidelines, so I think I'll suggest my changes at the Character Page Cleanup thread and the Character Specific Pages Cleanup Thread.
"Stand Proud, Sukuna, you are strong" | He/Him@constanton11: Perhaps the same can be done to the other works-by-decade indices to temporarily remedy the problem? Still working on splitting Music of the 2000s regardless (it's possible it may still come to this at some point), but perhaps this can help a bit.

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (all editions) progress: 426/1089 (39.12%)I already removed such notes from the other film decade pages.
Just removed descriptions and redlinks on Music of the 2000s and Music of 2010–2014, and the notice is still up. Confirms that the project (2000-2004, 2005-2009, 2010-2012, 2013-2016, 2017-2019) will be ongoing.

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (all editions) progress: 426/1089 (39.12%)Franchise.Shin Megami Tensei is giving the warning.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. As someone who frequents the page, while many entries are long-winded, I'm not sure how much natter is in the page. What I'm trying to say is that trying to clean up the page will be a band-aid solution to the length problem. The simplest solution would be to break the franchise to "tropes #-M" and "tropes N-Z" pages. But I'm willing to try and cleanup the page to help length-wise.
SpaceBattles.com fanworks (unnoficial) index in my Sandbox.Ninjago - Villains is starting to give the too long warning, so I've looked at what sections we could combine to split them off into further subpages:
- Serpentine: 32,412 characters/32,413 bytes
- The Overlordnote : 20,630 characters/20,634 bytes
- Stone Army + The Nindroid Army: 8,490 characters/8,490 bytes
- Vermillion Army: 3,397 characters/3,397 bytes
- Pyro Vipers: 10,140 characters/10,142 bytes
- Crystal Army: 9,805 characters/9,805 bytes
- Ninjago - The Serpentine note (45,949 characters/45,952 bytes)
- Ninjago - The Overlord's Army note (38,925 characters/38,925 bytes)

Any reason not to split off the sections for works with their own pages, like My Little Pony: The Manga, into their own Character pages?

Awesome. One Piece New World Era is showing the suggestion. I'm thinking maybe splitting the Final Saga into it's own section? It's the one that is still ongoing. Or maybe group in the Wano saga as well.
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.Splitting off Wano and the Final Saga seems to me like the best choice of action in regards to splitting that page.
Does anybody want to give more input on the splits I've suggested for Ninjago - Villains?
"Stand Proud, Sukuna, you are strong" | He/HimOK, I'll try to clean up the natter and some misuse I've seen in the Shin Megami Tensei page, but that's going to take a WHILE. Hopefully this will cut down the length of the page - I'm just not sure how much.
SpaceBattles.com fanworks (unnoficial) index in my Sandbox. One Piece: Land of Wano Saga and One Piece: Final Saga are now split off, with 146,678 characters and 62,161 characters respectively (the latter i expect to expand in the future).
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.Bottomless Magazines is running out of ammo space.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Maybe split off the Video Games examples off into their own page?
I created two sandboxes to split off two subpages from Ninjago - Villains.
Are these character page splits good and if so am I allowed to split theses two pages off now? Those splits sound like a good idea to me!

"Stand Proud, Sukuna, you are strong" | He/HimOK, update on the SMT thread. Unfortunately, it's impossible to cut it to a decent length just via a clean-up, so it will be best if we split the examples. The reason is that on top of the natter, many entries are zero context examples who need to be expanded upon - the opposite of what this thread is about. Personally I suggest we split Franchise.Shin Megami Tensei into "tropes # to M" and "tropes N to Z". I will try to clean-up the page in the meantime, because a quick trim really isn't cutting it.

Split the videogame examples on Bottomless Magazines into a subpage.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Ninjago - The Serpentine and Ninjago - The Overlord's Army have now been split off from Ninjago - Villains.
Edit: Misblamed and Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond are giving the too-long warning.

Number 1 CGI Fireman Sam defender- Well, Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond is probably going to lose some examples once Big Fish In A Bigger Ocean draft launches.
