- Americans Hate Tingle: The film was one of the biggest box office hits ever in Australia, so, hoping for another "Crocodile" Dundee-like success, Warner Bros. released it in the US in the jam-packed blockbuster summer of 1989 with massive hype, but it was a huge disappointment, limping to 8th place on its opening weekend and just barely turning a profit while receiving a mostly negative reaction from critics. This has largely been attributed to its style of humour not translating well overseas.
- Nightmare Fuel: The kittens being placed into a pie to be baked alive! Thankfully they were all saved in time...
- Retroactive Recognition:
- The film's main antagonist was played by John Howard (not to be confused with the former Australian Prime Minister of the same name), more recognizable nowadays as the People Eater from Mad Max: Fury Road
- A young Georgie Parker makes a brief appearance, a year before her Star-Making Role on A Country Practice.
- Squick: Just what was that slop that the asylum chef was serving?
