YMMV / Who's That Girl

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: In part because she's The Ditz, but Wendy is amazingly nonchalant about being kidnapped. When Raoul and Benny trot her out to Louden while he and Nikki (who is covering for her) are interviewing for an exclusive apartment, she takes the time to ask whether they got it.
  • Ass Pull: Bellson and Doyle's Straight Gay moment. There's little in the movie that even hints that either one of them is gay, and the whole moment just comes out of nowhere. The closest to foreshadowing is Doyle's lunch order, which at the time would have been considered quite effete.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The movie was better accepted in the foreign released territories, prompting Madonna to defend herself, rather weakly, that her ideas were better accepted in Europe and Japan, rather than her home country.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Stanley Tucci appears briefly as a dock worker at the start of the film. This was his first credit in a feature film.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Despite the film being a critical and commercial flop, Madonna's comedic timing was one of the few things praised by critics.
  • Values Dissonance: Doyle's lunch order. It's about the only foreshadowing in the film that he is Straight Gay, and pretty much relies on the period in which the film was made for it to work. At the time it would be considered rather effeminate. Today he might be dismissed as Metro rather than gay.
