YMMV / Weezer (The Green Album)

Go To

  • Broken Base: When it was released, it quickly became the band's most divisive album. Some fans love it for its simple and poppy sound and for being a stylistic throwback to Blue, while others despise it for being a total departure from Pinkerton (which amassed a following in the years Weezer quit being active) and for "dumbing down" their music for the masses by featuring simple chord progressions, predictable song structures, guitar solos that mirror the vocal melody note for note, and lyrics that either are about love or make little sense, or both.
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Many of the album's detractors (and even some people who do like this album) prefer the Summer Songs of 2000 that were being toured around before the album was recorded and would rather those songs comprise the album instead. Unfortunately, Executive Meddling led to Rivers mostly having to write new material from scratch. Some of the Summer Songs did get recycled for Maladroit though.
