YMMV / Tobot

Go To

  • Broken Base:
    • The entire concept of the series. Some people think it's great, especially its toys, while others think the whole concept of transforming cars ruins the series because Transformers already did it.
    • Adventure Y brings in a lot more problems due to being an actual ripoff of Evac. Some people are using this as their proof that Tobot is a ripoff of Transformers, while others are saying this is the only time it ever happens.
    • Within the Korean fanbase, a bit of a debate occurs about whether Tobot should've continued after Season 9 or not..
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Neon. Not only does his in-universe coolness come off well out of universe, too, but his Story Arcs of Season 7 and 13 are both quite compelling ones. He bonds fast to Dolly and the boys, especially Corey, and his savvy and (usually) on the ball personality are both refreshing and welcome to the show. Last but not least, despite his occasional sharp tongue, usually to those who deserve it (read: Diluk) and his early misgivings with his own parents, he's shown to be very respectful to most adult figures, including Dr. Char. After a fashion, he even gets to pilot his own Tobot!
  • Narm: The original Korean dub doesn't use professional voice actors, so some may find the show hard to watch until the voice actors naturally improve as the seasons go on. The same seems to apply for the Filipino-English dub, though there isn't too much improvement seen as each season was likely dubbed in bulk; on top of that, many sentences end up sounding rambled and run-on, often times giving the impression that the script was just thrown into Google Translate and then into a voice generator. How this comes off tends to differ depending on the episodes, but later Seasons/Story Arcs tend to slip into "slur" territory more often. One could argue that the show has never had good voice acting until Ocean Productions's Canadian dub.
    • Ocean's dub isn't perfect either - the dub is prone to large amounts of unnecessary cuts that screw with the pacing and remove important elements of the plot like almost all mentions of Ryan and Kory's mother, as well as the occasional run-on lines or random phrases added in and the removal of most mentions of Korean Culture.
    • Narm Charm: Despite the above, the show and its Filipino-English Dub are pretty fun when you get down to it, especially as the Seasons/Arcs proceed. Also, ironically to the aforementioned, Diluk and Officer Oh, generally being comic relief characters, probably come out the best out of all of the characters. Having said, the Dub's Season 2 (starting with Korea's Season 8) overhauls all of Season 1's voice actors. Much of the aforementioned issues actually sets in from this point, and most of the voice changes and/or acting are general downgrades from their Season 1 counterparts.note
  • Win Back the Crowd: After the pitiful failure of V/Galaxy Detectives, it was announced the original Tobot would come back in the form of "Daedo's Heroes".
