• Crosses the Line Twice: The letter sequence in the recent tale "Metaphysica Morum" is perhaps the most overtly comic thing in Ligotti's oeuvre, and easily one of the most gleefully tasteless. A tribute of sorts to William S. Burroughs' "routines," one must read it to believe it.

• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • "The Chymist" can legitimately be summarized with the phrase "I took her to my penthouse and I freaked it".
  • "The Frolic" has a character named John Doe who is likely a psychopathic murderer.
• The Law of Fan Jackassery: Mostly on the "obscure/friendly" end, with a small handful of nasty exceptions.
