YMMV / The Owl House S2E10 "Yesterday's Lie"

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop:
    • Don't knock something until you try it. Luz rejected the idea of going to the Reality Check camp, only to see that Vee not only liked the camp, but she managed to make real friends who shared Luz's interest in the supernatural. Luz could've found friends without having to travel to another world.
    • Running away from home shouldn't be your first option for your personal problems. While Luz's life before meeting Eda wasn't perfect, she still had a decent home with a loving mother. Luz not only hurt her mother with her actions, but she ignored other options for resolving her personal problems.
    • If you want people to take you seriously, have proof for your claims, don't act high and mighty and don't neglect morality in the pursuit of your claims. Jacob could've easily proven the existence of demons had he not alienated Vee and Camilla by acting like a nut or planned to dissect a sentient creature.
  • Fan Nickname: A few fans have taken to calling Jacob "Sonic The Conspiracy Theorist" due to the two very noticeably sharing a voice actor.
  • Memetic Badass: Camila has developed a reputation as an invincible warrior for not only defending Vee from Jacob but for beating him up using only la chancla. A lot of social media fans have begun to claim that she can defeat Emperor Belos when she meets him.
  • Memetic Mutation: "I will never understand anime." Explanation
  • One-Scene Wonder: Philip Wittebane's presumed brother appeared once as a statue and once in an old illustration in Jacob's book. The fandom immediately went nuts, theorizing what his relationship with Philip was like, why Philip doesn't mention him in the journals, whether or not he might have been the "base stock" if Hunter really is a clone, the possibilities of him being Belos' true identity and not Philip, etc..
  • The Woobie:
    • Luz's impostor is a young basilisk named Vee, who was brought back to life along with her kind in the Demon Realm by unknown means, only to be used as a lab rat by the witches to study their ability to feed on magic. Once she and her kind managed to escape, they were hunted down by Emperor Belos. When she saw Luz in the first episode, she took the opportunity to use the portal that sent her into the human world, and used her shapeshifting ability to disguise herself as Luz, because she longed for a place to belong. She loves the idea of a normal life so much that she's completely flabbergasted by the fact Luz chose to stay in the Demon Realm.
    • Luz herself is one as her Friendless Background and experience with Kids Are Cruel and Adults Are Useless causes her to nearly panic when Vee goes up to a group of high school kids, not knowing they are Vee's friends from camp, and is surprised when they turn out to be nice. The ending heavily implies that as a result of her terrible social life, Luz feels more at home in the Demon Realm than she ever did on Earth, where she has no meaningful relationships beyond Camila. As a result, Luz ends the episode in turmoil as her promise to stay when she returns potentially means giving up everyone and everything from the Boiling Isles and returning to a life that made her miserable.
