YMMV / The Isley Brothers

  • Awesome Music: That rippin' synth solo at the end of "That Lady".
  • Covered Up:
    • While it might've been the group's first chart hit, "Shout" peaked at no higher than at 47 on Billboard's Hot 100 when it first debuted. Only through its subsequent coverage by such bands as Joey Dee and the Starliters, Lulu, and usage in a plethora of media, did it finally reach the public conscience.
    • "Twist and Shout" is often thought of as a Beatles song, even though their version was a cover of a cover; the original was an early Phil Spector production performed by the Top Notes. It doesn't help the Top Notes' case that the song's co-writer, Bert Berns, felt that Spector ruined the song and produced the Isley Brothers' version specifically to show him how he intended the song to sound like.
    • Isley-Jasper-Isley's "Caravan of Love" was a #1 hit on the R&B chart and got to #51 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985. The next year The Housemartins (the short-lived, much-loved band from which The Beautiful South and Fatboy Slim launched their careers) had a massive #1 hit in the UK with their A Cappella cover.
  • Epic Riff: Ernie was very prone to this. And we love him for it.
  • Growing the Beard: When they became a sextet they started rocking hard as hell.
  • Vindicated by History: Most of their late 70's early 80's output.
