YMMV / The East New World

Go To

  • Breather Boss: The Colossus Crab. Its homing attack is easy to counter with the sword and all of its attacks are easy to telegraph. With Boomerang Blade, it becomes a pushover.
  • Demonic Spiders: The final world has evil clones of yourself, who emerge from mirrors, never stop slashing with their swords and instakill you. Also the extremely fasr birds are a menace in the same world, because they are hard to hit. And then there are the wizards, who are too common for durable enemies that shoot fireballs in twelve directions.
  • Even Better Sequel: The game has a Spiritual Successor, A Smile Is Beautiful, that is improved and even the difficulty is balanced... only subverted due to a Game-Breaking Bug that stops people from progressing in the middle of that game. Thankfully, such a bug is nonexistent in The East New World. And the bug can be bypassed, just don't get the final upgrade for your spell.
  • Game-Breaker: The triple jump, the lifesteal and the Boomerang Blade. These three can make everything far more manageable.
  • Goddamned Bats: Literal ones in the first three worlds, imps in the last one.
  • That One Boss: Most bosses are hard as nails, but three stand out.
    • The Giant Piranha. The only boss you fight underwater, it is very dangerous without the Flow Stone. Its charges are hard to avoid with you able to land a single hit, it can make you bleed (making it the only boss that deals damage over time) and its beams are very dangerous.
    • The Fire Dragon. He might be stationary, but his arena is full of traps you can fall into. His regular attacks are hard to avoid, but manageable. However, there is his ultimate attack, a devastating beam of lava that is extremely hard to avoid, instakills you always and is always his first attack.
    • The Corrupted Knight is a pain even for a Final Boss. In the beginning, he is too fast to hit and you have to redirect falling icicles to freeze him and leave him open. Except they are hard to hit and can also freeze you if they hit you. Then his horse comes forth, and while it has low health, it's hard to avoid its charges and the knight's lances. Finally, he regains all his health and charges at you horseback. In that phase, the bastard's attacks are all very hard to avoid and very damaging, while he leaves only a few openings and has a ton of health.
