• Complete Monster: Mestema is an Evil Sorcerer who has spent the last millennium seeking a Worthy Opponent to his powerful magic, killing countless challengers along the way. His curiosity piqued by Paul Bradford's computer technology, Mestema kidnaps him and his girlfriend, forcing him to fight under pain of his death and his girlfriend becoming Mestema's Sex Slave. The wizard pits the scientist against seven challenges, gladly cheating and throwing his henchmen's lives away to win. His magic is also horrific, being powered by dead souls, reaching the millions for some spells. Mestema was cruel even in his childhood, spending one scene reminiscing about burning a cat alive for kicks. When Paul is about to win the last challenge, Mestema outright sabotages his car, just so he can win.
• Older Than They Think: Nowadays, people think the phrase "I Reject Your Reality and substitute my own!" was coined by Adam Savage on MythBusters instead of this movie. His version is the one the trope is based on, though.
• Took the Bad Film Seriously: As silly as the movie is, Richard Moll gives Mestema a measure of almost Shakespearean gravitas and genuine menace whenever he's on screen.
