YMMV / Super Mario Fusion Revival

Go To

  • Broken Base: The decision to go with a serious modern soundtrack for the game. The use of music from primarily Ragnarok Online, which includes game-neutral tracks of widely different music genres, is seen by the majority as a fresh change for a Mario game, fangame or official. On the other end of the spectrum, some people feel the use of serious modern music in a Mario game is unfitting, even though the game starts to become serious once the the game progresses past World 1.
  • Demonic Spiders: Yellow Paratroopas, which constantly chase after you and are hard to hit.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: World 1-S5: Yoshi Betrayal becomes a bit unnerving since the Brawl in the Family strip "Plumber's Best Friend", which features Yoshi intentionally throwing Mario to give him extra jumping height, leaving him to fall to his death.
  • That One Boss: The World Boss fight against Bowser qualifies. First off, he's immune to all of your previous tactics that defeated him in the past. Second, the only way he can be defeated is with Yoshi spitting out blocks or hammers back at him, and you better catch Yoshi before Bowser grabs him and throws him to a not-so-unreachable platform. After he's defeated, he transforms into Baby Bowser, but it actually makes him harder since knocking you off Yoshi will give him a free ride on him at a very fast speed. Only with extreme patience can you beat him.
  • That One Level: World 1-S3: Jugemu Junction. The water physics are altered to match the water physics of Super Mario Bros. 3, and Lakitu is there to give players a headache.
