• Critical Dissonance: Most wrestling critics, even those who like Sakai, were not too kind to her ROH work. The live crowds were pretty apathetic to her too but started warming up to Sakai in 2016, eventually making her WOH's biggest baby face by 2018. The critical ratings of Sakai tend to remain low.
• Draco in Leather Pants: In The US at least, Sakai's heel work rarely gets her heat for very long, and sometimes not at all. She has so much fun with it a lot of fans can't help but encourage her, and they tend to find her funny. Even the usually reliable stall and run away tactics don't always work, especially when Sakai is often so much smaller and or less fierce than, say, Mercedes Martinez or MsChif. She usually has to be against someone not particularly aggressive and around her size like Alere Little feather or Veda Scott to avoid making Sakai the face by default.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: It wasn't the heavily pushed Mandy Leon or Kelly Klein, nor some foreign phenom that had the most fan interest by the time a WOH Championship belt had finally been created, but ever loyal patriotic immigrant Sakai, so ROH unexpectedly but understandably went with her.
• Fanon: Lioness Asuka breaking her leg during one of the many thrashings she gave Sakai in 1999 is a much better story, it's understandable why fan writers go with it. It was just so common people who didn't watch Jd'\JD Star took it as fact. While Sakai did suffer an injury in 2000 after the Jaguar Cup that prevented Sakai from finally getting a much anticipated(by Jd' standards) shot at Asuka's TWF single's belt and lead to Asuka winning the TWF Tag Team Titles by herself, Asuka, who was the only thing many fans cared about, had little direct involvement and it was a series of events besides.
