YMMV / Steven Universe S5E26 "Together Alone"

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Jade fusion, thanks to her adorable design and the fact that her very existence shows there are gems on Homeworld who would support Steven, has become this.
  • Fanfic Fuel: Amedot shippers will likely have a ball (no pun intended) with the story opportunities of Amethyst having her own limb enhancers.
  • Genius Bonus:
    • Puking your hair in a dream represents needing to discard something that's weighing you down. Steven throws up Rose's hair in his nightmare, indicating he needs to let go of his desire to live up to Rose's legacy; he feels overwhelmed by having to deal with Pink's responsibilities.
    • Blue Diamond asks sarcastically if Garnet should enter the ball with the Demantoids, the Hessonites, or the Pyropes. These are actual classifications of real garnets.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Steven's nightmare at the start of the episode featured what appeared to be an undamaged White Pearl in a pink color scheme. A common fan theory was that White Pearl once belonged to Pink Diamond before being damaged and turning to White's service.
    • Blue Pearl being a hobby-artist quickly became popular fanon after "The Trial"; as of this episode, it's canon.
    • Many fans correctly predicted that Stevonnie would return in this episode.
    • The prediction that Garnet would get poofed was also true, though few expected the same thing would happen to Amethyst and Pearl.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Yellow Pearl asking what fun is, which was featured in promo clips, has inspired memes of Steven responding by singing the Sponge Bob Squarepants "F.U.N." theme song.
    • The Diamonds' rampage got many fans calling it the show's equivalent of the Red Wedding.
    • "Does that call herself a Garnet?" is the line that justifies Blue Diamond replacing the cat in the "Smug cat surrounded by knives" meme.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The shots of Steven throwing up larger and larger portions of Rose's hair is... unpleasant to say the least. Not to mention it's happening in an actual nightmare. Also overlaps with Nausea Fuel.
    • White Pearl's rigged smile turning into an utterly disdainful scowl — she's usually so unnaturally calm, that it's beyond scary when her expression changes.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The Jade Fusion exploded in popularity after the episode aired, despite having less than a minute of screentime.
  • Shocking Moments: The reveal that White Pearl originally belonged to Pink Diamond, based on Steven's surreal nightmare.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • While many speculated that Stevonnie would appear in this episode, no one expected Opal to return as well.
    • We get another confirmation of an element from the video games into full canon, as it's confirmed that there are single-Gem Garnets (Demantoids, Pyropes, Hessonites, etc.).
