YMMV / Star Trek: Lower Decks S3E10 "The Stars at Night"

• Fridge Brilliance: Boimler rattling down all their names when the other Cali-class ships arrive is actually quite in character for him: Announcing incoming ships seems to be one of the duties for the person sitting on his station —and Boimler is prone to do everything exactly by the book.
  • Further, Boimler is from California, so it's likely he'd be familiar with all of the names since Cali-class ships are named for cities in California.
• Genius Bonus: The Sovereign-class USS Van Citters is named after John Van Citters, who works at CBS and is in charge of approving all licensing and tie-in fiction for the Star Trek franchise. Van Citters was previously a roleplaying game developer with Decipher, Inc. on their short-lived Star Trek roleplaying game.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Mariner becomes disappointed that it was Admiral Picard who sponsored her expedition. It's later established in The Inner Fight that she was close with Cadet Sito Jaxa prior to the Kolvoord Starburst accident and prior to her death on a spy mission. Mariner was basically working for the man who sent one of her friends to be killed.
• I Knew It!: The Alternative Character Interpretation of the previous episode is confirmed: Admiral Buenamigo engineered events so that the Cerritos would need rescuing by the Aledo.
• Inferred Holocaust: The attack on Douglas Station was shown to be quite brutal, with Starfleet officers running for their lives before the hallways explode and fill up with fire. It also lasted long enough to have live news feed to let Mariner learn what was happening. But the ending is focused more on the California-class fleet coming to the rescue and everyone having a big celebration in the mess hall afterward, despite the fact they would be looking at hundreds, if not thousands, of deaths in the event.
• Moral Event Horizon:
  • If erasing Rutherford's memory, trying to sabotage Freeman's career, and setting up the Cerritos to be attacked by the Breen didn't push Buenamigo over the line, he most certainly crosses it when he decides to straight-up murder Freeman and her entire crew to keep them from exposing him.
  • The Aledo crosses it at transwarp when it attacks the station and gets its sister ships to join in.
