YMMV / Star Ocean: The Divine Force

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • Raymond's Battle Theme is your normal Star Ocean battle theme — which is to say, it's awesome!
    • Laeticia's Battle Theme is an orchestral rearrangement of the same melody, complete with an ominous, yet energetic choir in background.
  • Ending Fatigue: After you return to Aster IV the game leads you into what seems to be The Very Definitely Final Dungeon, Scorpium Spire. However, after you beat it, the game throws you into another dungeon, where you have to beat four more bosses, including That One Boss and two that you just defeated. You also have to sit through several flashbacks that tell you the information you already know.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: While some lament the scaling back from the sheer full party carnage of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, the general consensus seems to be that The Divine Force is an actual game this time instead of what felt like an engine test, with fun combat mechanics, a more dynamic approach to exploration, and an interesting if standard story that is actually comprehensible and given proper cutscenes again.
  • That One Boss: Remmington is a full on gimmick boss with a shield health bar you have to wittle down. He can No-Sell any attempts to Blindside with long range counter attacks, forcing the use of Estery Cage. The fight is a long drawn out battle in a game where most bosses can quickly be taken out in under a minute. His attacks can also draw players in and he can summon mooks to help him, making him one of the harder bosses of the game.
