YMMV / Sonic Robo Blast 2: The Past

Go To

  • Archive Panic: This mod exists to avert this effect, compiling content from roughly a dozen different builds of the game spread across two decades into one convenient package.
  • Awesome Video Game Levels: Winning every race in Metal's Challenge sends you to History Clash Zone, a Time Crash level built out of stages from throughout the game's history. It's a lengthy and intense level that ends in a boss fight against two versions of Metal Sonic at once.
  • Breather Boss: 2.2's version of Brak Eggman in the "VS. Everybody" gauntlet. He's fairly challenging in his own right, but he's a cakewalk compared to the Metal Sonic Dual Boss and original 2.0 Brak fight he's sandwiched between.
  • Camera Screw: Some of the levels from the earliest versions of the game are filled with narrow, low-ceiling tunnels that interfere with camera movement unless you switch to first-person mode, likely a remnant of SRB2's Doom origins.
  • That One Boss: The "VS. Everybody" Boss Gauntlet includes a Dual Boss against the 2.1 and 2.2 versions of Metal Sonic at the same time. Unlike a similar fight in History Clash Zone, where you have a large arena to fight them in, the Boss Gauntlet version takes place in Metal Sonic's boss arena from the base game. There's very little room to dodge both robots at once, and it's very easy to fall off the small platform or bump into the electric fences.
  • That One Level:
    • Like in its demo of origin, Sonic's Nightmare Zone is pretty tough, with precision platforming being key to victory. And worse still, you need to tackle this level with both Sonic AND the base game's unlockable trio to snag this level's emblems.
    • Egg Rock Zone (v2.1) is understandably tough as is, but having it as the final race of Metal's Challenge really takes the cake. Not only do you have to charge through each of the major obstacles, but you need to fight through BOTH routes before you're allowed to end the level.
  • Unexpected Character: A number of characters from old versions of the game are included as secret unlockable characters here, including:
    • The early placeholder version of Sonic, using sprites from the ill-fated Sonic X-Treme
    • Mega Man, Chao, and Cinossu from the Demo era
    • Zim, who was briefly in the game as a multiplayer character
