- Nightmare Fuel: The scenes of the darkened hallway just outside Frank's apartment. It's easy to imagine the killer lurking in the shadows, ready to strike at any moment.
- One-Scene Wonder: Frank's father, as well as Helen's mother and daughter. The lack of screentime given to Frank and Helen's families certainly emphasizes their loneliness.
- Retroactive Recognition: Samuel L. Jackson appeared briefly as one of the wanted criminals who were Lured into a Trap by the NYPD. He's credited solely as "Black Guy". This was early in his career before he'd become famous.
- The Scrappy: Terry the cable guy is usually regarded as the film's weak link. Some thought that the reveal of him as the killer was impossible to guess due to the lack of clues or foreshadowing, while others feel that being played by Michael Rooker makes him too obvious a suspect.
- The Un-Twist: Given that Terry the cable guy is played by Michael Rooker, it's not too hard to guess who the killer is.
