YMMV / Samurai Vandalism

  • Complete Monster: Shogun Takahatsu Hitotsubashi is the extremely corrupt ruler of Yamato. Ordering the death of Nue Serizawa and his family out of fear of him being too powerful, the Shogun would then order the Teito Defense Force to raid Mukuro Kamiyashiro's village for obsidian, resulting in the deaths the villagers living there and Mukuro's sister Mei leaving her for Byakuya. Additionally, the Shogun also ordered the burning of Shrines which worshipped no deities, and forms the City Watch after Hozuki's failures to deal with Byakuya. Should Mukuro stay with Hozuki, the Shogun would order the death of his own daughter Sayo Hitotsubashi, not because of her having the Arrow of Apollo within her, but because he can, and after the City Watch captures her alongside Mukuro, the Shogun, upon finding out that Sayo's butler hid her, has the latter mutated into a Daidarabocchi. The Shogun later forces Leo Goldstein into a Sadistic Choice whether to save Mukuro or Sayo, forcing the mutated butler to drop both of them when Leo can't decide. Should Mukuro defect to Byakuya, the Shogun would order his slavers to be arrested to cover up his involvement, and plans to scapegoat Tamano for his actions. Eventually becoming massively paranoid, the Shogun orders the City Watch to kill everyone. Should Mukuro become a Ronin, the Shogun has Hiraga attempt to make him eternally youthful to rule over Yamato forever.
  • Continuity Lock-Out: The game has some returning characters from Ideology in Friction and thus playing this game requires a player to at least experience the Pure Love Knights Route for that game so that it explains the significance of certain things, like Annette Stole's prosthetic being handed over to Falke.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Daruma, born Nue Serizawa, is the leader of Byakuya, a terrorist organization that sees to free Yamato from corruption. Saved from a suicide attempt by Hiraga, Serizawa is remade into "Daruma" and learns that Shogun Takahatsu Hitotsubashi killed his family and begins plotting. Founding Byakuya, Daruma converts the defeated Azami Takachiho to his side to found Hozuki. Distracting Hozuki, Daruma has Azami assassinate the Chief Minister to weaken the Shogun's regime and if Mukuro Kamiyashiro chooses to stay with Hozuki, has Byakuya capture Sayo but lays down his life when Hiraga goes rogue to save the world. Daruma begins the final battle against the Shogunate by crushing the Shogun's allies and using the chaos to free their prisoners in the path where Mukuro defects to Byakuya; later installing a new Prime Minister, Daruma wipes out the remnants of the old City Watch and helps extract and destroy the Arrow of Apollo while mercifully killing Tamano, whose body holds it. In the path where Mukuro becomes a corrupt Ronin, Daruma fends off Mukuro and her evil allies with all his might, accepting his loss and death with complete grace.
