YMMV / Rolo to the Rescue

Go To

  • Scrappy Mechanic: Defeating McSmiley in the final boss battle ends the game then and there, regardless of your progress otherwise. If you didn't get the Good Ending (or at least, didn't save beforehand if playing the game on an emulator), then you have to start all over again. In that case, you even get the regular Game Over screen afterward as one last parting shot.
  • Signature Scene:
    • The game's infamously sad Bad Ending — where Rolo escapes from the evil circus and returns home to his mother, but suffers Survivor's Guilt because he didn't rescue all his animal friends and is never truly happy again — is the most talked-about part of the game for many.
    • The Game Over screen itself — where Rolo gets locked inside McSmiley's cage to begin his new life as a circus elephant — for much the same reasons. For such an obscure game that looks so happy and colorful on the surface, there's no denying how tragic it gets when you fail either way.
  • Values Resonance: Rolo's crusade to save his friends from an evil circus, thanks to the general public having turned against animal abuse in traveling circuses by the 21st century.
