- Harsher in Hindsight: A movie where a woman who has nightmares of being raped every night seems a lot darker after Roman Polański himself was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl. The fact that Carol's mental illness is implied to stem from rape when she was a young girl only makes matters worse.
- Signature Scene: The arms growing out of the walls and groping at Carol near the end. It's been so widely referenced that the scene has reached It Was His Sled territory by this point.
- Squick: The shots of the very realistic-looking decaying rabbit carcass.
- The Woobie: Carol was barely hanging on by a thread at the start of the film, and she completely loses her mind over the course of the movie due to trauma from her childhood rape.
