  • Awesome Moments:
    • Jimmy taming Oy and Oreo by singing to them on Day 10.
    • Day 19:
      • As bizarre as the sight is from an outside perspective, Acho juking the Butler, the Youngest Daughter, the Janitor, and one of the cats and fleeing to safety is very impressive.
      • Owen trapping one of the cats in a custom-made box trap, followed by a successful escape from the Janitor's relentless pursuit.
  • Bizarro Episode: The Jingle Jam Christmas event on Day 60 goes against virtually all other major plotlines in the form of Yet Another Christmas Carol, takes place in locations far beyond the Mansion, and would have had little impact on the overall plot if it weren't for the copious number of canon deaths near the end.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Many jokes are made at the behest of the termite guests relating to their short lifespans, usually in that they had only been alive for a week when they met the rats and would die in another week even if the rats didn't have them killed.
  • Fan Nickname: At one point, Jimmy's chat nicknamed the Janitor 'fWhip' after a fellow content creator whose Minecraft avatar is also a bearded redhead.
  • Fanon:
    • It's quite widely accepted on Tumblr that Jimmy and Lizzie, much like their character counterparts on Empires SMP Season 1, are siblings. This is based on their character dynamic, and a few conversations on Day 1 suggest that they knew each other even before the events of the series.
    • After the destruction of the Boiler Room on Day 29, the rats eavesdrop on a conversation between the Mother and the Janitor which Jimmy was unable to hear because the content creator didn't realize he had to download an additional data-pack posted to Discord earlier that day. His stream chat then decided based on this that his character was hard-of-hearing.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • With the Outsiders SMP and Empires SMP, due to creator overlap.
    • Many Pirates SMP fans started out as Rats fans, not just due to creator overlap but also for being another POWCreations production.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Pretty much the entirety of Day 51, which revolved around Aimsey and Guqqie evolving into an Official Couple with a happy ending, gets overridden when the Area Unknown SMP lore stream "Past Grievances" reveals the rabbits were eaten by wolves after the rats left. Yet another example of Star-Crossed Lovers for Aimsey and Guqqie.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • On Day 1, Apokuna quickly comments that Acho's outfit made him look like a sailor. Give him another several months and he'll show you just how sailor both of them can be. Similarly, on Day 16, Owen finds a pirate costume made by the Grandmother and dons it.
    • On Day 12, Scott makes a joke about burning the Maid alive using a fire charge he just found, and that out-of-character, he'd likely get in big trouble for doing so. Cut to Day 19, a mere week later, and Jimmy has drowned the Gardener NPC in the pond outside the Mansion, but is let off with a slap on the wrist on the basis that the NPCs will respawn in due course.
    • On Day 47, when Jimmy is killed in the Cat-astrophe and the rest of the rats scatter to escape the huge cat that killed him, Oliver runs to hide with Will, who is convinced that Scott is a witch based on how he's a Supreme Chef and brewed a potion to cause this disaster in the first place, and Oliver suggests at this point he should stop being a witch. A month and a half after the Rats finale, cue the WitchCraft SMP; not only is cc!Scott part of that server, but he wins the Witch Trials to become the Supreme Witch and ends the series by depowering himself in a ritual, i.e. both their predictions came true.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • While all the humans NPCs are scary in their own right from the rats' perspective, the Janitor is a walking, talking piece of Nightmare Fuel — he has further reach and an eye for rat-catching, i.e. he just has to be able to see a rat to be able to catch them, and can even open trapdoors that the rats may be hiding behind, or bend down to nooks and crannies they may be hiding in. Now add in the fact he's aware of the rats' sentience (at least while drunk), which makes him much more aggressive than the other humans.
    • The Cat-astrophe on Day 47 is horrifying. While Oy and Oreo already deal more than enough damage on their own, the cat clones duplicated from them are Sizeshifters, and thus have greater reach than the normal cats, being able to enter otherwise inaccessible spots the rats may be hiding. At several points, the cat clones suddenly balloon in size from termite-sized to human-height and large enough to fill an entire room. It's a miracle that only two canon lives are lost in the chaos, and none of them are final at that.
  • Viewer Name Confusion: One of the clone cats from Day 47 is nicknamed 'Chunk' by Jimmy due to its large size. However, since virtually all dialogue in the series is verbal and the name is never writtten down by anyone in canon, it's unconfirmed whether the nickname is spelt 'Chunk' or its more memetic form, 'Chonk'.
