  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Just like the character whose role she usurped in this season, Glinda comes off in this episode as far less saintly and good than she did in the previous one. On the one hand, she thanks Zelena for getting rid of and exposing the Wizard, seems to genuinely care about her welfare and wanting to change her destiny, and accepts her with open arms into her sisterhood. On the other hand, once Dorothy arrives in the same manner as Zelena did she immediately begins praising the girl's "great power" and accepts her at the table (literally in Zelena's seat); despite her trying to explain to Zelena that the prophecy may not mean what she thinks and only she can choose whether she will be good or evil, she accepts Zelena's fall rather quickly and doesn't show any grief or remorse for her "death"; and after Dorothy seemingly kills Zelena and wants to be sent home, she seems far more chummy with what she thinks is the Wizard than her earlier diatribe against him would suppose—only begging for Zelena to change and be good again when her own life seems in danger. In the end it is left unclear, then, if she was a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing all along who only tried to change Zelena to spare Oz her evil and turned on her as soon as she found a better candidate; if she was simply blind to the way her doting on Dorothy would look to Zelena, she tried as hard as she could to save Zelena but failed, and after pragmatically working with the Wizard to reward Dorothy she became The Atoner to try to make up for what she had done; or something in between.
  • Anticlimax Boss: After all the build-up for the latter half of the season, Zelena is actually surprisingly easy to defeat; although there is some fighting between the Badass Normal heroes and her monkeys, Gold keeps everyone away from her and her power seems unassailable... but all it takes is Regina learning to channel light magic and suddenly she's knocked out of her circle of power and easily divested of both pendant and dagger.
  • Genius Bonus: The pillars behind the Witches' chairs in Oz are carved with both inscriptions and symbols. The former are written in the Theban (or Witches') Alphabet and translate to "Guardian of the Southern Lands", "Keeper of the Western Realm", "Defender of the Northern Lands", and "Protector of the Eastern Realm." The symbols come from magical lore and stand for the four elements: Air (North), Earth (East), Fire (South), and ironically Water (West). (The directions for Air and Earth have been reversed however, whether intentionally or accidentally.)
  • Spoiled by the Format: Since everyone already knew that there were two episodes left in the season, the fact that Zelena was defeated (and killed) and the good guys won made it very clear that something bad was going to have to happen at the end, or in the next episodes.
