The Woobie: Odd, Stormy, and Odd's neighbor, who lost everyone dear to her. Her husband due to a heart attack in his sleep, and the rest of her family while they were on vacation and had the misfortune to pick one of the 9-11 planes. The fact that she thinks her family's invisible makes it more heartwrenching.
The 2013 film:
Complete Monster: Officer Simon Varner, the leader of a group of Satanists, attempts to kill as many people as possible solely as a tribute to the Prince of Darkness. To this end, Varner has a potential witness kidnapped and fed to one subordinate's dogs, even killing another of the group when young psychic Odd Thomas becomes suspicious of him. Varner orders the death of the local police chief and has his subordinate Eckles kill the security of the local mall before intending a mass shooting of the mall's patrons, before Varner sets off a bomb to kill everyone else with the first responders.
Harsher in Hindsight: A flashback shows a guy with similar powers to Odd's dying when a car runs over him. Anton Yelchin lost his life in 2016 in a freak car accident.
