- Awesome Music: The film introduced "I'm a Poor Lonesome Cowboy" in the franchise in its full glory (Luke sang it in the comics as soon as 1957, but obviously it had to be heard as well). It was then used instrumentally in the opening and ending of Lucky Luke: Ballad of the Daltons, then truncated for the first animated series. It has become a classic tune for the title character.
- Older Than They Think: "I'm a Poor Lonesome Cowboy" is a Real Life American Old West song the author of which is unknown, neither Morris nor René Goscinny made it up. It was first used moviewise in 1945's Along Came Jones with Gary Cooper and Loretta Young.
- Signature Scene:
- The scene in which Luke plays chess with Jolly Jumper, which is used in many generic gifs and images.
- Luke taking a sip of his cigarette and the smoke having the shape of skulls, which is also used quite often.
- Tear Jerker: The ending has Luke being a "lonesome cowboy" once more when the townsfolk decide to abandon the town for a gold rush. The once lively Daisy Town quickly takes on the look of a ghost town, rendering all efforts to protect it and put some order into it completely meaningless. Even if Luke is as placid as always with his drifter status, it's still hard not to hold back tears when he rides off into the sunset while the emotionally sweeping "I'm a Poor Lonesome Cowboy" starts playing. The slight melancholic twang in the vocals doesn't help either.
- Values Dissonance: Lucky Luke smoking, a habit he would quit twelve years later in the comic books (a move by Morris that would end up lauded by the World Health Organization, no less).
