YMMV / LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance: How come this game is not canon, yet Ronin not only is, but also references the events of the game (he mentions in his debut in the TV series that he faced the Ninja at some point)? It's because the events of the game were narrated by Kai, who, as Jay points out, is an Unreliable Narrator. Likely the events of the game actually happened, but not as shown in the game.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Ronin's debut paints him as a ruthless mercenary planning to resurrect Master Chen in exchange for money. Having mindwiped the Ninja during an ambush on their dojo, Ronin uses their confusion to hunt down the Elemental Forge of Lightning while sending both his men and brainwashed Serpentine after them, intending to collect all four Forges to revive Chen. When the Ninja catch wind of his plan, he allows them to find the Fire and Ice Forges and ambushes them to steal it from them. Needing the Elemental Fulcrum to complete his plan, he then hypnotizes Misako into finding the Fulcrum for him while luring the Ninja into a trap, stealing the Fulcrum afterwards. Retreating to Chen's fortified island, Ronin comes within inches of completing his job, putting up a considerable fight when cornered and managing to escape when beaten.
  • Narm: Many cutscenes in the game are hard to take seriously due to being done in-engine, meaning the characters' mouths don't move.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The game is not spectacular, lacking many of the features of other Lego games due to being released exclusively on handhelds and portable devices but it functions and is essentially a several hour long episode of Ninjago.
  • Unpopular Popular Character: Ronin is generally well liked, despite being the bad guy. This is especially true once he migrates to the main continuity.
