YMMV / It Takes Two (1995)

  • Catharsis Factor: Whether you agree with the Jerkass Woobie description below or not, it's still immensely satisfying to see Clarice get what's coming to her in the finale. She is a nasty woman and deserved every bit of the humiliation she endures. After all, commenting that Roger's beloved wife is dead "because she had no taste" upon seeing their home is one of the most low-down things to ever appear in a kids' movie.
  • Funny Moments: Amanda's awesome Insult Backfire moment is immediately topped when after Clarice forces her to play piano in front of all the guests, she gets up there and just bangs on the keys like a maniac in front of all of Clarice's guests. Not only is it hilarious, but it's effective payback since Clarice pretends to be so sweet in front of Roger, but immediately drops the façade in front of Amanda (whom she naturally thinks is Alyssa). What really sells the moment is that before she does so, she repeats back Clarice's fake, insincere "whom I absolutely adooooooooore" to her first.
    • Roger saying, "I used to look like a real jerk on a horse" and then he immediately runs into a low hanging tree branch and gets knocked off his horse.
    • Alyssa spitting her gum into Clarice's hair and Clarice's absolute freak out when she finds it. The screaming just makes it that much better, as that awful woman deserved it ten times over.
    • Amanda deciding to stall the wedding to give Alyssa and Diane more time to arrive is hysterical. She picks a flower out of her basket, smiles and curtseys, and then places it down. Then she takes another step and does the same thing...over and over again. When Clarice leans over and sees her doing it, she's enraged. Eventually, she just gets so pissed off that she grabs her wedding party and sprints down the aisle past the child. Everyone looks weirded out when she does it and even Roger seems surprised she's that desperate.
    • The food fight is equal parts adorable and hilarious, mostly because Diane is trying so hard not to laugh at Roger and can't help herself. The look on her face after he hits her with the butter is just fantastic.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Clarice. She's the last of all her sisters to get married, which is clearly a sore spot for her. It’s also implied that she has issues stemming from the fact that she had multiple stepmothers in her childhood. Once she finally does make it down the altar, Roger decides, at the very last moment that he can't go through with it. Yes, Clarice is a horrible child-hating bitch and Roger made the right choice in deciding not to marry her, but you have to admit that he definitely should have called the wedding off way earlier than he did. He even admits he should've said something earlier and that he deserves the slap she gives him for this.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Considering that the film has been called a ripoff of The Parent Trap on this very wiki, it's ironic that Dennis Quaid, who was on the laundry list of actors considered to portray Roger Callaway, later got the part of Nick Parker in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Some have speculated that this film was what inspired Disney to remake The Parent Trap in the first place.
    • The ending to this movie is nearly identical to the ending of Rugrats in Paris which came out a few years later. In both movies, the main character's dad almost marries a vain woman, the woman in question wanting to marry for her own selfish reasons rather than out of love, and both don't like children and wouldn't make for a good mother figure. The dad ends up falling for another woman who would end up being the perfect mother for the main character. The main character and the dad's love interest end up crashing the wedding and the dad ends up rejecting the bride at the alter after a change of heart. The bride ends up tearing her dress, exposing her underwear, and leaving in embarrassment.
  • Tear Jerker: Roger's explanation for why he hadn't visited Camp Callaway in over a decade:
Diane: When was the last time you were here?
Roger: It must be 10 years.
    Diane: 10 years?!
    Roger: Yeah.
Diane: What'd you do? Build the camp and then never come back?
Roger: No, no. It was my wife's idea. She had a very, very big heart.
    Diane: Had?
Roger: She passed away when Alyssa was born.
    Diane: Oh. Sorry.
Roger: I just never could come back. Until now, that is.
