YMMV / Gravity Falls: Deep Woods

  • Awesome Art: The backgrounds in the second part of Quest for the Northwest and the second episode are truly well-drawn and well-detailed. The character designs of the second part of Quest for the Northwest and Deep-Rooted Misunderstanding are also very well-drawn, looking just like the designs of the show.
  • Awesomeness Withdrawal: Because the project is carried by a team of various amateur artists and voice actors, and because of the level of details of the drawings and backgrounds, the waiting time between two episodes can be pretty high. Quest for the Northwest was released in two parts; the first in January 2017 and the second in June 2017. The second installment then remained in development for over a year and was released October 31st 2018 and the third was released June 18th 2020. This is actually the reason why the development team chose to turn The Tales From Weirdmageddon into a series of mini-episodes with less detailed backgrounds and drawings instead of a two-parter. They are hoping to have a more regular schedule with this new format.
  • Fridge Horror: An off-hand comment made by a gnome reveals that there may be giant spiders living in Gravity Falls' forest. And they are big enough to capture gnomes.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Mabel and Dipper help Pacifica escape the attention of her parents and have fun with her to cheer her up during the big parade in Quest for the Northwest.
  • Tear Jerker: In "Tales from Weirdmageddon: Mabel", it's revealed that "Mabeland" was initially just the Shack and her family together. All that Mabel wanted deep down was to be with her family and Ford to spend time with them. What's more is that Ford and Stan are visibly happier together than they were during "Deep-Rooted Misunderstanding".
  • The Woobie: Pacifica. In Quest for the Northwest, we learn that her parents often take her to public events (such as parades) in order to boost the Northwests' reputation by promoting the image of a perfect family. Events in which they expect her to just wave and look pretty in front of the crowd. Her first appearance in the animatic shows that she's clearly unhappy and exhausted by the whole ordeal. When Mabel calls her so she can have fun with her and Dipper, her mother grabs her and forbids her to leave the parade. She also mentions that, because of what happened during the events of "Northwest Mansion Mystery", her parents are looking for any excuse to punish her again. At one point, she shares with the twins what she thinks of her life as a Lonely Rich Kid.
Pacifica: "Usually, I just have minigolf practice and private leadership lessons. And my parents drag me to these big publicity things where all I'm supposed to do is wave and watch everyone else have fun... Dad wants me to take over the family's business someday, but I'm not sure if I want to do that, you know?"
