YMMV / Giana Sisters DS

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: That the blatant Mario copy was remade twenty years later for a Nintendo system as a licensed retail title.
  • Porting Disaster: Giana Sisters 2D is a horrible PC port of an already-horrible mobile port of Giana Sisters DS. Setting aside the "improved" sprites that make Giana 2D look like a cheap Flash game, the game is a buggy mess. From dodgy hit detection, to achievements not working, to the game randomly refusing to unlock the next level after clearing a stage; Giana 2D is a terrible representation of the DS game.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: You get to use bubble gum to make a bubble so big that Giana can fit inside it and use it to fly around the level. But the bubble is very difficult to control, popping it will drop you into whatever hazards may be below and pretty much guarantees death, and it is mandatory in nearly every level that has it.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Giana Sisters DS built upon the first game with more expansive level design, along with adding more unique enemies and a more diverse soundtrack.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: The DS game stars a cute protagonist, has bright and colorful pixel art graphics, and some of the best Retraux chiptune music ever. Punk Giana even has elements of this, being an adorable Perky Goth. The game is simply a fun time from start to finish. The game is All Just a Dream, making this one of the more literal examples on this page.
