• Ensemble Dark Horse: Rosa, the katana wielding, Rambo-esque Action Girl in Kizuna Encounter is one of the most popular characters of the franchise.
• Game-Breaker: The two SNK Bosses of Kizuna Encounter are playable with a cheat code. They are predictably this.
• Memetic Mutation: Hayate's infamous scream in the intro of Savage Reign.
• The Scrappy: Carol Stanzack, the French gymnast, is widely disliked among the fanbase due to her gymnastic skills being out of place for a fighting game. As such, she and Nicola were the only two characters of Savage Reign who didn't return for Kizuna Encounter.
• Spiritual Successor: While it is probably an unintended coincidence, the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja PlayStation 2 / PlayStation Portable series shares a lot of gimmicks with Savage Reign not seen in any other fighting games, like stages with two different planes clearly separated between "up" and "down" layers (even more in Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3) and riddled with hazards, and a strong emphasis on fighting between their long distance with screen-length projectiles.^note While other games like Onimusha: Blade Warriors or Fullmetal Alchemist: Dream Carnival share the same "multi-layered flat stages" gimmick, none of them have an strong emphasis on projectiles like the other two.
