YMMV / Duck Season

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: In the "Nuke" ending, is the dog about to harm David, or is he trying to comfort the scared child since he is trapped in the game with the dog? The latter is supported by the fact that, if you look at the side behind the logo, you can see the dog hugging David.
  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack was composed by Michael Wyckoff, who is well known for lending his talent in making good music for a lot of indie games. And this game's original soundtrack is no different.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In a Dorkly video titled "Power Up Mix Up (part 2)". In the Duck Hunt bit a tactical nuke is deployed. In Duck Season, if you shoot the sun with the super rifle, you will trigger a nuke explosion.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The dog crosses it by killing the mother just to spite the boy.
  • Paranoia Fuel: When you play Duck Season, you can look behind you to see the kid sitting on the couch and staring at the TV while he plays. Towards the end of the game, you can turn around and see the dog standing motionless right behind him.
    • One of the major events that you can't miss is noticing that the camera on the TV has vanished and seeing that the TV has changed to a live feed... of your house, with the camera situated out the back yard door to your immediate right. Looking over reveals the dog, who then runs off.
  • Signature Scene: The Game Within a Game suddenly showing your character, causing you to turn towards the nearby glass door where the dog is watching you before he runs off.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The Canon ending. The dog is finally defeated, but the boy's mom has been brutally murdered. He goes to call 911, but he hangs up, buries his mom, then proceeds to pack up his things and run away from home. The song playing during all this, "The Season", makes it even more depressing.
    • The zombie wave mode added in the October 27th patch has your mom as one of the zombies. Shooting her will cause David to yell out "Mom!". Made even more depressing when you remember her fate in the canon ending.
