- Arc Fatigue: As the finale drew nearer and nearer, the videos became shorter and shorter and split into "parts" and even "acts".
- Cliché Storm: Being a "dark and edgy" superhero series will lead to a lot of cliches being present, including but not limited to the hero having bad publicity, the villain asking the hero to join him, said villain being a figure of high authority, etc.
- Complete Monster: Leonard Phillips is a sociopathic scientist who seeks to develop a suit of power armor for his boss. To this end, he turns a Covenant elite into a killing machine, and then commits robberies to fund himself, having his assistant kill any witnesses. When he learns about Deus Ex Machina's exploits, he has a civilian killed as a warning and threatens to kill more.
- Fanfic Fuel: The series had its fans, many of whom were dismayed that it had been quietly abandoned by Jon. As a result, there were plenty who took it upon themselves to create fan-made endings to conclude the story in his stead.
- He's Just Hiding: A lot of people assumed that the brief nightmarish shot of Michael's decapitated corpse indicated this. Jon confirmed that it meant nothing and that Michael was indeed dead.
- Narm:
- Everyone is in MJOLNIR armor, even old homeless guys.
- Despite wearing helmets with their entire head clearly covered, characters will spit at others in spite.
- Never Live It Down: Jon got some major grief about how the characters, all established to be wearing 24-Hour Armor, give out Spiteful Spits despite wearing helmets. He comedically addressed these complaints in his Guide to Making Machinima series by going on an over-the-top rant about it.
