YMMV / Destinos

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: It's been suggested that Raquel seems to have more personal chemistry with Ángela than with her nominal love interest Arturo, leading to some people viewing them in a Les Yay light.
  • Memetic Mutation: Raquel's shoulder pads are practically a character unto themselves.
  • Narm Charm: To reiterate, this is a very Melodramatic Telenovela, designed to be used in high school and college Spanish classes, with the educational content very obviously shoehorned in, especially when Raquel herself Breaks The Fourth Wall and gives us a pop quiz at the end of each episode. It's pretty corny, especially if you're forced to watch it as a student, but it's well-made enough to be entertaining.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Much of the Narm Charm comes from the actors treating this show as though it's an actual Telenovela, complete with heightened emotions and dramatic flourishes.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: While it's commonly used in college Spanish courses, Destinos is also aimed at high schools, and some middle schools have utilized it as well. While there's nothing too racy or disturbing in the show, it still hits common Telenovela parameters, which makes it a little awkward for adolescents needing to keep track of a storyline that includes a Love Triangle, Raquel getting unwanted attention from The Casanova, a harrowing rescue from a cave-in, and a subplot involving embezzlement, as part of their school curriculum.
